Quote:"They say it's gonna trickle down," the Alabama native and Auburn basketball star said on TNT's "Inside the NBA" Wednesday. "I'm gonna trickle my fat ass down to the jewelry store and get me a new Rolex. I'm not going to pass it to nobody," Barkley said.

Trickle down...lol

So, the jewelry store gets that money, then they go and spend it somewhere else and so on....wonder if they'll spend any of it or bury it out back??
From the Christian perspective, and I mean the teachings of Jesus himself and not the way some of his so-called followers act, Barkley's comments condemn the people more than the government. We should take care of our needy in the community. It's not just the government's job.

If Charles is bothered by the tax break, he's free to use the money to help the poor. Nobody is forcing him to buy a Rolex.
Here is a *partial* list of companies giving bonuses because of the tax cut

(The Rollex Submariner can be bought for 890$)

AT&T -> union-represented and non-management workers, will be eligible for a $1,000 bonus
Wells Fargo -> Will boost its minimum wage to $15 per hour from 13$ an hour (about 4K per year in income)
Washington Federal -> Will give a 5 percent merit increases to all employees earning less than $100,000 (anyone making more than 20K get 1000+ raise)
Sinclair -> Sinclair Broadcast Group will pay a $1,000 bonus to almost 9,000 of its full-time and part-time employees

That is exactly how “trickle down” works. Keynes had another name for it. He called it the multiplier.

Now a supply side move would be for Barkley to invest in a new factory to make Rolexes.

But either way, that money will help to create a job or few.
If this is the left's major problem with this bill, why didn't they say so? I'm sure it would have been taken out in exchange for Democrat votes.

it's funny how you don't hear a word about 'fear mongering inflation' from the left.....nor do you hear how socialist policies relative to "real inflation" has only widened the wealth gap (the 'official' inflation number is a joke IMO)

That is literally an example of trickle down economics. Instead of hoarding his money like libs say rich people do, he's gonna go out and spend HIS OWN MONEY on what he wants to spend it on. He's not spending a government rebate, or money that isn't his. With my tax savings I'm probably going to start renovating my bathrooms, which creates work for people.
If he’s getting a “new” Rolex did that mean he currently has an “old” Rolex?

As with so many celebrities, they donate their “talent” not their cash to “the cause”.

Do as I say not as I do.

Exactly. Is the sales clerk who get the commission at the jewelry store “Rich”. No, just a working stiff who benefitted from the rich guy buying stuff. The Rolex had to be made. It’s not just rich folk. Every middle class family is supposed to get an extra $2K. So if they go buy a new washer and dryer—that helps the appliance sales man, but also it helps all business that helped manufacture the washer and dryer (electric motor companies, steel manufacturers, screw companies, plastic molders, etc.).

Barkley was a Republican until a few years ago.

Barkley isn't a leftist. He just doesn't like this bill.

He actively campaigned for Doug Jones, and he hates a tax bill that gives a tax break to low and middle income america. That aligns him fairly closely to Nancy Pelosi. He's certainly to the left of Susan Collins, so thats going to put him nowhere near the right.
And maybe Barkley could donate some money to the Bette Midler pity party. I hear she's all upsetz.
What you guys that think this tax bill is so great don't seem to recognize is that the bill is a huge corporate tax cut. It is a gift to the donor class. It includes some tax breaks to the middle class but they are small potatoes in comparison to what the wealthy and corporations get. Of course we are all glad to save some money on our tax bill for a few years but it is basically a cheap bribe to keep the masses occupied while they walk out of the bank dragging bags of money. Squirrel!!!!!
