The Golden Flashes welcome red hot Northeastern to the MAC Center for a 7:00PM tip off on Monday night. After a slow start that included losses to Ohio State, Stanford, Furman and Utah State the Huskies have rattled off wins over Harvard, Cornell, Bucknell and Vermont.

Leading the way for Northeastern is Vasa Pusica. The 6'5 Serbian averages 14 points on 55% shooting. Right behind Pusica is 6'1 guard Donnell Gresham. He is averaging about 11 points per game and is shooting nearly 50% from distance.

This should be a good test for Kent State. I am not sure how Harvard, Cornell, Bucknell and Vermont are doing this season, but I would take wins over any of the above any year.

Go Flashes!

Bucknell is no pushover. They gave Maryland all they could handle a few weeks ago.
The next 3 games are against quality teams. We will get a good indication of how the time off has helped or hurt this team.

I think we win a close one.

GO FLASHES!!!
A lot of bad signs tonight. Pippen and Johnson not dressed. Always concerning the first game after finals. Duling hurts his back and doesn't come back in the second half. We play pretty poorly. It appears we're trying to play mostly 4 guard lineups but we only have one guard over 6'3". This of course is close to the equivalent of starting back at square one. The perimeter defense may have even gotten worse with 4 guard lineups. At one point near the end we had a 5 guard lineup and still gave up an open 3. We've played a very weak non conference schedule but it looks like we'll finish it under .500.

Other than the above, everything looks great...

I couldn’t have said it better.
I don't think schedule is that bad, Xav, Wright St, Northeastern, Albany, Ore St. Loyola Chi, Valpo all solid programs. We have our share of cupcakes, Have you looked at some of the OOC schedules for the other MAC teams? Nobody can claim a Charley Coles Miami schedule.

but cant blame this one the schedule. We have way to many unforced TO's and the 4 guard lineup limits the D rotations and rebounding.

What is the word on Pippen and Johnson not dressing?. I thought I heard on post game that Pippen is injured.

On kenpom's strength of schedule ranking we're 314 in the country. The only teams with easier schedules in the MAC are CMU and Akron. Yet we're the only team in the MAC that is below .500 right now.

I liked our schedule with a mix of teams at different levels - I don't think the strength of schedule is that bad - but the only teams we've beaten so far are really bad and we lost to one bad team (SeLa)
So it says in the paper that Pippen sustained an injury in practice. How badly? No word on Johnson.
The problem with the schedule is it was front-loaded with cupcakes. So they start 3-0 but since they started playing MAC-esque teams they've gone 2-6. And last night yet another team comes in and seemingly has shooters up and down the roster while we struggle to make simple layups. This is going to be a loooooong year.
De La Rosa with 4 fouls in 20 minutes last night.

How good would Raasean Davis look right now?

Davis is currently averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds for North Carolina Central. While I am sure that Kent State just wasn't the right fit for him, I think there is a great example of how harmful constant roster turnover can be, especially when you try to replace potential four year guys with band aids that you can never fully develop.

Anyways, Jim Joyce I fear you are right.

I've never been so relieved to hear someone is hurt. I didn't notice any visible limp or casts/boots last night so that's a good sign.
So much for the four bigs. Two are hurt and the other two didn’t play well. I should know not to say such silly things. I too am afraid this might be a long year. I also wondered last night if Peterson will ever come around. He plays a lot of minutes so I presume he does some things well but scoring doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Not necessarily. Walking and playing basketball are two different things.
I have the impression that if Rob can make this group into a winning team, it will be his best coaching job ever. I was very impressed with game 1, and it has gone southward each game thereafter. Looking for the proverbial light switch.

Sendy said in post game presser. Johnson got hurt in practice day before. he was not sure to what extent.

also DLR played hurt last night didn't practice most of finals week.
What is it with all the injuries?

I was just thinking the opposite about the coach - he had a team that won the MAC and just lost 2 players, and it looked like we added in some good talent (Duling, Johnson, Frederick, Nwankwo). Now, we can't make layups, we can't defend, we still can't make 3s. We have very poor shot selection. Our bigs lose the player they're defending, then end up fouling. We don't look like a smart team.

I was just thinking that I went thru the same feelings last year. We really did not develop into being a good team until some time in February. But, I agree with your description of what the team looks like right now. Maybe we miss Jimmy Hall.
