I wonder what Trump has on him?

That was my first thought. I may have jumped the gun with the post though. Seems it may be more of an Al Franken stepping down in a bit rather than immediately.
The Republican party is imploding.
This is just speculation at this point, right?

As designed. Hence, Trump.

Quote:Ryan’s preference has become clear: He would like to serve through Election Day 2018 and retire ahead of the next Congress.

The heartfelt concern expressed by CNN over John McCain's health is touching. No crocodile tears at all.

Exactly, that is the plan. The Republican Party is just a slightly right version of the Democratic Party.

Don't tease me
He turned out to be a fan of Atlas Shrugged in the same sense that I'm a fan of U[sic]GA.

I could get used to that.

Careful what you wish for. The Republican grassroots have the sights aimed correctly at leadership in their own party. The Democrats are largely hunky dory with Pelosi and Schumer. I think you'll find a Republican Party actually standing for shrinking government and taxes instead of merely obstructing Democrats is your worst nightmare. See Also:

Coolidge, Calvin.
Eisenhower, Dwight.
Regan, Ronald.

Actually, I was kind of joking. I would prefer a renewed Republican party over Trump any day.

I still have faith the the Republican party will one day embrace the diversity of this country and make policies that people of color can support.
Do we know why he is stepping down?
I felt like Paul Ryan was like 32 years old (apparently he's 47).

WTF is he doing retiring? If this jamoke ends up on Wall Street and suddenly 7 figures richer, gawd damn it............

Maybe just me, but if I had his money, I would have retired at 47.

More than likely because he would have been primaried or would have lost in the general. He's not stupid...he clearly sees what's happening and what will happen next November. And before you go there, this happens in nearly every mid-term election after a new president takes over, regardless of their party.
Darn, there goes a great Miamian out of the public eye (sarcasm)
