Guess Urbach really is transferring then.

still unsure of what this means - we still dont have confirmation of whether urbach is on scholarship or not. Zyon could be a late signee as a preferred walkon
I watched a couple of videos on him. He looked quite short in the 2018 video or so (looks sub 6 feet) and more recently looks much taller, as if he's had a growth spurt in the last year. I would suspect he's a recruited walk-on too...Likes to drive to the basket. Can also hit from the outside.
Dobbs to JMU!
Welcome Zyon Dobbs.

Nice!

Assuming Flowers is a redshirt, this gives us 7 freshman this upcoming season (just over half of the roster, not counting walkons).

4 juniors, 1 soph, 7 frosh, and 1 senior (Pinkard).

I like the talent and I respect that they are building a team via 4 year players but the imbalanced classes worry me a bit. It's college basketball so there will be some attrition, maybe a guy or two red shirts but there are challenges with red shirt. That said this is a more talented 7 with greater upside and more complimentary skills rather than duplicative than the 7 JMU had in the program when Rowe took over.

Hopefully by the time it becomes an issue (21-22 recruiting guys to fill their spots in 23-24) the program will be on solid ground in terms of head coach.

FWIW Urbach has been spotted with the team at various activities on social media- most recently some volunteer work by the squad at a local middle school and before that watching the JMU Softball team on ESPN. My guess is he will still be with the program as a walk on.
Once we win 12 games this year Lou will be able to talk about how young the team is and get a three year extension

God-willing

I get the dig at Rowe and he deserves it. I think the Dukes will do much better than that this upcoming season. If not, Lou should be shown the door. Though, I'd take 12 wins in the CAA regular season in a heartbeat. 04-cheers
Pivotal year for the program- despite the youth Jmu has a core of upper class men with experience in D1 and the Caa. No excuses Jmu should compete for the top of the conference with the players they have back and assuming the OOC portion of the schedule is weak to ok (crossing my fingers for better) this years team should win in the OOC as well. If they don’t turn the corner this season I believe a change will be made.
Adding Dobbs could be a sign that another transfer is expected. Until everyone enrolls for fall classes, transferring is still a possibility. Schools continue to pursue Lewis. This should be a payoff year for Matt’s hard work his first two years at JMU. It would be a shame to see him play his last two years somewhere else. Worse yet it would be a huge bummer for him if he transferred and played limited minutes due to the competition on a P5 team.

When I review Matt's twitter page, I walk away knowing he, Banks and Parker are all working hard in the off-season to make this upcoming season a corner-turner for the Dukes program.
I hope that remains the case WP. Rumor mill continues to suggest he is being pursued which is likely the new norm for mid-major players in college basketball. We fans must hold our collective breaths each off season.

Yep. Not surprising. A credit to Matt's growth. Same was said this time a year ago. I recall when Mickey Deane announced his departure for Auburn, some on this board had Megan Good gone to AU with him. Fan boards do these kinds of things. While it won't shock me if Matt left, I am confident he wants to see things through here and his number may hang from the rafters one day as well.

Wouldn't surprise me.

I am with 97 - I think urbach goes to walkon status.

adding a 6th freshman at this point seems a bit odd. very late and imbalanced class. I would like to know the thinking behind this signing.

1. is dobbs that much of a get? his other offers dont seem to indicate that.
2. is pg a big area of need? this year, Parker starts at point with Lewis playing point when parker is out? who is a third option if needed.

3. is the idea to red-shirt him so we have the PG in waiting?
Most top players are leaving the CAA; which now ranks below the Southern Conference in status.

With that as the backdrop, you consider Matt's situation playing for a coach likely in his last year with a dismal record (25-65 D1), and 40 yr low in attendance.

Why would Matt stay if better opportunities arise?

And why would JMU want to be in the CAA?
