Diehard saw your post about renaissance hotel and going to be there next week Two quick questions. How is the cleanliness of the hotel, saw a few negative comments on reviews that concerned me. And how far is the walk for the people mover from where it drops you off to fore field Thanks!

Renaissance is really clean IMO and very very nice. I looked forward going there each year compared to other hotels I've been to. The lounge area is one of the better I've been to out of any hotel. If you are interested in cars at all, they have all of the new GM models at the bottom floor (pretty cool to see) and the tram picks up directly at the hotel.

The one stop is about maybe a mile at most from the stadium. Not a bad walk and go basically by Chelis.
+1. One day road trip. Third Huskie road trip this year (BG/CMU). Very excited!

I stayed one time for the MACC at the Marriot Renaissance Center. Extremely nice hotel with lots of amenities and connections to GM and nice shopping. Clean and comfortable. At the time, NIU did not provide transportation to Ford Field and I decided to walk it. I did not feel all that safe on some blocks with the characters lurking there.

The next couple times I went to Detroit, I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on Gratiot and Brush Streets. Extremely close to Ford Field. Basically walk out the hotel door and Ford Field is about 1 1/2 blocks away. I do not drink, and partying with young drunks is not my thing. I go exclusively to see the games. And after a few I've been to, I should have just stayed at a bar and drunk myself into a stupor.

+1. Staying at the Westin, passing on the reception (Mrs.T has food allergies)

Thanks to having time of work already, I wasn't kidding when I said it was easier to make this game than a midweek MACtion game.
+9 Location, opponent and timing of the game couldn't have worked out any better this year. Staying at the Westin.
+3, flying from DC and staying at the Westin.

+2 to +5 at the moment depending on certain details.
+4 at the Westin
Our groups also booked at Westin. $142 with tax for the Bowl promo rate.

MD - Renaissance has always been great every time we've made the trip.
Parking garage is right across the street.
Lounge in the hotel is nice, food is decent.
Never had an issue with our rooms.
Can jump on the tram/people mover, whatever they call it, from inside the hotel. Makes a small loop through the downtown area. I think it's $1.00 to ride? Can jump off maybe 6 or so blocks from Ford Field. We've walked from hotel to FF before, not bad, if it's not too cold.

When that was the main hotel for the MACC, there was always a lot going on and it was decked out with signage, etc. not sure if it'll be the same for the Bowl game. Actually surprised that's not our hotel for the Bowl game.

Where is the pregame reception? Is it in Ford Field?
For those staying at the Westin, really nice place. I am pretty sure there are condos in there too.

Nice bar/restaurant when you walk in. There is another bar on 2nd floor, piano bar if I remember. Also another sports bar across the street by Holiday Inn.

It's also near 2 "institutions." Lafayette and American Coney's. To me , they were "ok." They are connected and some of us are convinced they make the chili for both places in the basement lol.
