May have to do down to that game. I am very leery of going into that neighborhood, but at least the random shootings from a few years ago have ended - and I don't have Ohio plates.

That is a scary place.
I had always wanted to see that arena, so I took the family up a few years ago. We went to the eastern market in the afternoon, then the game. I've driven around Detroit, been to the ball parks, but never driven through that part of Detroit. Its only a few street miles from the market to campus and I was shocked. I've never been to a war zone, but I can only imagine, that is what it looked like. Bombed out buildings, neighborhoods decimated, graffiti, etc. We get to campus and its completely surrounded by an 8 ft metal fence. Campus is definately a rose in the middle of a bunch of thorns. I can't imagine going there on a visit with prospective students. Its scary around the campus.

The arena is old school, cool. Floor is dedicated to Dick Vitale. The rockets came from 20+ down to win, so that was a bonus. Got lost leaving campus, that is another story.

Oops - I was actually thinking of Wayne State. That is in a section of town that is not so bad, but they were having murders there that were not connected to the normal street crimes involving drugs or gang killings. I was at Detroit Mercy when the Rockets played there back around 2006. I remember it being below zero and I think it was a 2pm game on a Saturday in January. Nah - not going there tonight.
