This Thursday the WBB will host the Coppin State Eagles during the first of two Education Games scheduled for this year. This will mark the first time in history that ODU has ever played Coppin State. Coppin State is part of the MEAC and is located in Batlimore Maryland. (If you know that area, they are really close to the Maryland Zoo. It's a nice place to visit)

On Saturday Nov 18th, the Eagles beat Mount St Mary's. Yes that is their only win of the season, but it's a big win. You see last season the team didn't win any games during there nonconference schedule In fact, you have to go back to 12/29/15 when the team last beat a nonconference opponent.

Eagles Schedule RPI: 319 Record: 1-5 SOS: 289

@ SF Austin L 72-59 Record: 3-1 RPI: 139

Vs Missouri L 50-73 Record: 5-1 RPI: 63
Vs Manhattan L 56-74 Record: 2-3 RPI: 208
Vs ODU 0-5 RPI: 293

Odd isn't it. We have yet to win a game and I think we are the favorite to win. Homefield advantage, screaming kids bringing us energy, better players, etc. If we lose, I'm sure some fans will think "trap game".....

They Eagles have three players who play nearly the entire game. And one of the players averages close to a double double per game. So yes this team does have some talent. Based on the numbers, a lot of the stats are really close. Coppin Stat is a better FT shooting team, ODU is better at the long ball. At the end of the day, Coppin State averages 19.0 turnovers per game. That kills them, doesn't matter how well they play the rest of the game. It's hard to win when you average that many TOs.

Education Games are fun Bottom line, we have 6,000 screaming kids that will bring the energy. The excitement. No one wants to lose in front of that. Yet...it has happened before. KB lost her first education game against UMES. So hopefully history won't go in that direction and the Monarchs will walk away with the first victory of the season.
ODU wins! 75-67
Glad that is out of the way. I was starting to get worried about Nikki in year 1

Barefoot left the cabinet damn near empty. Little to no mid major DI talent on that team

Yep. Complete rebuild. Have some patience, CMett, it will pay off.

Yep. The A-Team is on the way.
I admit to not following the women's team as much as I do the men's, but to those who do, is there a chance we can be competitive in conference play? Or is this just a rebuild year from start to finish?
Relax, this is a year where Coach Nikki is doing all she can to salvage a really bad situation. Next year is what I'd call a rebuild year, and the year after will likely be the one where ODU starts to see real excitement again. That's my expectation and I am sticking to it.
First of many wins!
This year will suck. Nothing can be done about it and its out of Nikki's hands. Next year is the rebuild and 2019/20 is when we should see real improvement and start being competitive again, and hopefully be back in the NCAA.
Even with no depth and no height to speak of, i’m very encouraged by what i’m seeing. I hated the isolation play of the past years. Now we see patterned plays, working the ball for the open shot, tough defense. We see fewer and fewer turnovers and that’s a positive. Coach Nikki doesn't miss anything during the game and is quick to point out and correct play that is lacking. I think kids are going to want to play for her and for ODU. I’m hopeful that a few of the best local players will want to attend ODU and help rebuild the program. There will be times when other teams will simply overwhelm this years’ squad with depth and height, but I don’t think there will be a squad that outworks the Monarchs. I see a bright future.

Agreed. When her first recruiting class enters their Junior year is when the tide will turn.
The Lady are getting better every time on the floor. The offense is looking better, not taking as long to get into their sets, they are moving the ball so much better. I'm encourage by what coach Nikki has done with them thus far.

Please stop saying that this time doesn't have D1 Talent, they do, and they will continue getting better. We are heading in the right direction. See ya on Sunday !!!
