Dave Doeren is being mentioned as successor to former MAC coach, Butch Jones, at Tennessee.
I greatly admired his coaching when so briefly at NIU.
I am surprised he would be on their list. He isn't a very high profile name and hasn't won more than 8 games in any of his seasons at NC State. Best of luck to him.
Doeren's not that dumb. He can win 8-9 games a year in Raleigh and they'll name the stadium after him while that performance would get him run out of Knoxville.

They have mishandled this so badly so far that I imagine they are literally looking at every football coach in America.
Interesting, his contract at NC State got him a $50k bonus, another year and a $100K raise for winning 8 games this year.
This is the first year he has had more than 3 conference wins.
Four years and only 3 conference wins can get you fired usually.

True.
On this board he is seen as a Saint of NIU football.
Let's take a trip down memory lane to see why?

Two almost perfect years at NIU.
His timing could not have been better.
NIU had not won a MAC title at Ford Field despite losing in 2005 and 2010.
Jerry Kill had just gone to Minnesota and the fan base was upset that we still had no MAC title despite very many MAC West titles.
He inherited a solid reputable and very succesful program with great recruits.

Despite a poor start in 2011 he won Two MACC in two years.
2011: 11-3
Conference 7-1 only loss to CMU(3-9) at Kelly Shorts Stadium.
A narrow loss to Kansas(2-10) that year.
A 6 TD blow out loss to a top 10 Wisconsin team at Soldiers Field.
No top 25 ranking.

However from October 8th to January 8th he gets an unforgettable 8 game winning streak to:

Win the MAC West with Toledo whom we beat 63-60 in Toledo.(They thrashed CMU 44-17 at Kelley Shorts Stadium).
Win the MAC title finally achieving the goal set by legendary Joe Novak!
Beats Sunbelt champion Arkansas State (10-3) in Bowl game( EPASNOOPY's delight!)

2012: How do you top a first time MACC an an 8 win streak?
Repeat as MACC, get ranked in the top 16, goto the Orange Bowl!
The pinnical achievement for a G5 school!
This is the best year so far in NIU football and may remain so for many years.

A narrow loss to ranked Iowa at Soldiers field, followed by arguably the most memorable win 12 game win streak in NIU FB.

A double OT win at Ford Field between #19 ranked NIU(11-1) over a #18 ranked Kent State(11-1) team. When will we see ranked 11-1 ranked MAC teams again in Detroit?

With a 12-1 record and #16 ranking and an Orange Bowl invite, Dave Doeren heads to NC State.

So that is why Dave Doeren is loved on this board.
Iowa was not ranked in 2012. They were far from it, but that's a great observation.

If Doeren takes the safety against Iowa at Soldier Field, NIU would have
won the game the way NIU was shutting them down on defense...and been 13-0 heading into the Orange Bowl....

After the game he said "I don't like giving up points, and my friends and I stated that he also doesnt like beating Big 10 teams either".....
What coach would want the horrible situation in Tennessee?
They will end up with their 6th or 7th choice.
Tenn is about to pull an Illinois when they hired Beckman from Toledo. UT owes IL big time for that blessing

Hopefully Carey is 6th choice and there is a huge buyout.

I hope Dave Doeren is sending Jordon Lynch a Christmas Card with a gift every year. Lynch made Doeren millions.

A: Inherit Lynch and name him starter, tell him to run.

Beat me to it 03-lmfao
when was the last time NC State won 8 games in a season?
(11-28-2017 10:04 PM)huskie1stdown Wrote: [ -> ]What coach would want the horrible situation in Tennessee?
They will end up with their 6th or 7th choice.

Plus the state of TN does not produce that large a quantity of quality football talent compared to their population. If a coach does not have strong recruiting roots outside the state it's hard to succeed against Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M etc
Doeren is being targeted by Tennessee now after missing on several candidates. Must be a huge pay raise to get into that mess.
