Not sure why, but he’s officially out for the rest of the season....
Figured Carey might be trying for the medical hardship waiver but it doesn’t look like Graham will be eligible since he came back and played

Medical Hardship Requirements

To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

I feel bad for Graham; he is a hard working, tough kid who represents the program well. The positive takeaway is that Graham’s injury allowed the guy the staff wanted (Childers) to develop. I think we are a better team with a healthy Graham, than a developing Childers, but I don’t think our record would be any different. Not sure what this means for Graham’s future in the program; but it will likely be a back-up role to Childers. Wish him a speedy recovery.
I agree, ceiling is definitely much higher with Childers and Childers at least gives NIU a shot in a few of those P5 games next year. Graham has some value but his ceiling was well defined.
It's looking more like this to me next year. So I don't think it will be as difficult as it looks.

1. Childers vs. Hall for #1 QB (Childers in the lead)
2. Graham as 3rd string
3. Thompson as 4th string (possible transfer)
4. Santacanerina Transfers out
5. Jiya Wright (incoming recruit redshirts)

I don’t think Thompson is good enough to transfer. I think he sticks around. Also think Graham will be part of the QB competition.

No disrespect to Ryan, but if Niu is serious about not benign embarassed next year Graham can't be a starter

The first part of your statement and the second part are absolutely mutually exclusive.
I don’t think Graham will end up being the starter, but I think he’s part of the completion assuming there is one.

I just don't love the speculation on players transferring. Something about the negativity doesn't sit well with me. His arm is good enough to start. Maybe with 9 more months of maturity perhaps he earns/wins the job. I do agree that there is more competition at this position that I can personally remember. I suppose that is a good and bad thing. Bad that one guy doesn't stand out and demand he is the QB. Good that we have capable replacements should the starter not perform well.

Hall would need to make a huge leap to be considered the starter against NIU's first 4 games. Here is hoping he gets in the conversation. If so, that would mean that he has grown mentally and physically as a player.

Agree but that can also be said of Childers. We need a QB that can be effective in the passing game and neither of these guys have shown that ability.

Childers is developing and getting better each week, all he needs is some talent around and a coaching staff that doesn't trip him up every step he takes and he will be fine.

Lol
All QB's need to be ready.
The way we use them, if the starter makes it through 14 games it would be a miracle.

Sadly I have not seen the improvement that you speak of. To date Childers is a below average MAC quarterback. Until and unless he finds some passing ability NIU will not compete for a MACC.

Man, what? A below average MAC QB? Name 5 QBs better than him.

I don’t think he’s good but he’s at least an average MAC QB.
When I get depressed watching Childers try to pass, I have to remind myself he's a R-Frosh. He can defiantly improve. Since Carey seems committed to him, I really hope 2 things happen. One is obviously the ability to complete a pass further than 15 yards passed the line of scrimmage. Its reasonable to think he can make great strides there. The second is that his running deficiency is due to a knee issue that will clear up over the summer. He makes no one miss, is slower than the D-tackles and runs with very little power. If its not his knee, than I don't think he has much upside. Hall looks absolutely electric running from what little we've seen. I'll take his legs and inaccurate arm over Childers legs and inaccurate arm.

If Marcus doesn't show some playmaking ability in the next two games, I'm going into next year hoping its a wide open race and all QBs have an equal shot. We need a playmaker....not a non-mistake maker.
I believe Childers will turn out to be a really good QB.
Give him time.
If your watching the Akron KSU game, it is clear Childers is not the only QB that struggles with deep passing; I have yet to see a long pass completed by either team. Childers is better than any of the QBs I have seen in this game. The QBs on both teams are a combined 10-33 for 113 yards and 3 picks; MAC football.
