Glad we won, but the refs for this game (SMU) were the worst I've ever seen in the Liberty Bowl Stadium. The targeting call wasn't even close to targeting, the ref who called it and the replay official who confirmed it should never be allowed to do a NCAA game again. The unnecessary roughness call on the QB sack was one of the worse bad calls I've ever seen, horrible. I could go on and on about this group of incompetent so called refs and the bad calls they made today, just don't have the time to list them all. These SOB's who refereed this game should never be allowed on a NCAA football field again.

They weren’t good today that’s for sure. I’ve never heard the stadium boo that long before. It was impressive

Agree 200%

The NCAA should definitely reverse the targeting penalty for next weeks game.

Many calls were terrible but that one took the cake.
I normally am ambivalent about refs but those guys were atrocious.
They looked like they were paid for. Who would stand to benefit from having SMU upsetting Memphis? I really don’t know but there are an awful lot of cheating gamblers in Texas.
I never complain about the refs, I believe the bad calls even out, but these guys were absolutely horrible and should not be allowed to ref again this yr.
Generally, when fans complain about the refs it is a case of sour grapes or only the fans think the calls were wrong. Neither apply to the last game.

Doesn't matter. It was in the first half. Still, a totally whack call.

You are uncertain of how you feel about referees?

I was trying to figure out how the call got made...maybe they ALL had a bad angle???

What I cannot understand at all is how the f u c k i n g replay official could confirm it. There's zero reason for that call to have been confirmed. It just wasn't even close......

Yeah, the replay official for sure needs to be gone.

just watched the replay on my dvr, and right when they come back from halftime, they show a replay angle that we did not see at the stadium.

#37 committed the targeting foul on a different player, THEN he shoved the kicker down.

Well he was busy on that play then, lol. Eff the refs anyway.

Okay, thanks. That helps to explain that call. However, the call on the QB sack was atrocious. Watch the replay, the head ref is standing right next to the players as they sack the QB, and he is reaching for his flag before any whistle can be blown, the sack had just started to occur; and you can clearly see him reaching for his flag. This entire crew needs to be fired and never call a college game again. Heck, the ref keeping time on the field blew it 3 times in the FIRST HALF and the clock had to be adjusted. And I lost count of the number of times they had to have a conference before making any calls. These guys deserve to be ridiculed, they're complete idiots.

Looking for someone's opinion as I didn't see a replay. Was the ball catch-able when we got a pass interference on the first series. I don't deny our DB was tied up with the receiver but I didn't think the ball was near catchable.

And can somebody with REAL knowledge of the rules clue us in... is weather or not the ball is catch-able a factor in college, Pro, or is it conference-specific? Also, as an aside, I thought PI in college was always a 15 yard penalty, and an automatic 1st down. But I think it was Thursday night(?) I was watching a college game (can't remember who was playing other than it wasn't AAC) and the PI happened about 7 yards past the LOS, the ref said it was "a spot infraction", placed the ball at the spot of the foul - and an auto 1st down.

yep - I saw all of that garbage too. as for the ref with his hand on the flag, I was thinking that the spread was 11, at the moment we were up by 14. I'm not sayin, just sayin...
Fuente publicly appealed the poor officiating, makes you wonder if Norvell appeals in a different manner.

Or is any appeal public knowledge?
