Not a good start
Look flat. Again.

Maybe the D is flat but the O is not
Good response. D needs to make some plays.
All runs, no passes. Now the D needs to shut them down.
If we just stop them, we’ll win by 35. They can’t stop us

They stopped us on a 4th and a inch, and held us to a FG late in the half.

Short term...
Does coach Candle ever get fired up?

He had some pretty heated discussions with the zebras last night.

Agree _ I have seen him go hard after officials and some players on occasions. He usually leaves dealing with the players up to his assistants and position coaches. If he gets after them, they really screwed up. I think he has the right demeanor for a head coach. Stay at the 30,000 foot level and keep thinking ahead.

Having said that - you have to wonder with the high ranking of most penalized teams - whether that will hurt his job opportunities coming off this year. I think most AD's will say he has out recruited the rest of the MAC now that Fleck is gone, but he may not be able to do that at a school that will be looking for a coach because of poor performance. He also walked into a good situation based on what was in the cupboard after Campbell left. I think they would prefer to see how he does next year without Woodside.

I think the team he's recruiting is going to be at another level.

It's probably realistic to say, that depends upon whether he stays and they stay. If he's taking mid-game-planning interviews to Lincoln, he's probably taking them to more likely job opportunities.
I think Candle:
1) Was able to put together a solid coaching staff
2) Is able to manage talent well, just look at how the three running backs are used
3) He has been able to line up a great recruiting class
4) He Toledo in a tough game on the road through the 4th against Miami
5) The play calling and game management is much better than with Campbell

In my opinion, he will be or already is a top candidate somewhere. I hope he stays another year, so we get this recruiting class in, but that is the way it goes.
