Time to go to South Florida and start a winning streak. FIU has been better than i expected but nothing special. If we dont turn it over, got a decent chance to win.

I still have nightmares over the last time we were at that place.
Im no genius but based on what i saw yesterday I am having a hard time imagining the scenario where "decent" is the word used to describe our chances of winning any game that we have yet to play. we are just a bad football team right now
Not sure of our chances against FIU, but I'll go out on a limb and say we somehow win this one.

Then we beat Rice.

Then we travel to MT Sue with a bowl bid on the line and...........get blown out!

Of course we could win out and then win the bowl game and salvage a winning season.05-stirthepot

I thought our defense playwd really well. Disagree?

Offense needed to finish drives but couldnt. They will put some points up vs FIU.
I don't blame you Giles but this has to be the record for the earliest in-season game thread. The ink isn't even dry on the UNCC game.

I watched some of the FIU game last night. They did not seem to play to the level of their record but they still looked like the better team.
It can so hard to find perspective during the season, but based on the offensive production we saw against WKU and N. Texas, combined with an obviously improving D, I think we have a real shot at beating FIU and could really see this season coming down to the MT game.
Thank you Giles for getting this one started. It's not crazy if it works.

Stockstill is back at QB for MTSU.

Will this be on TV/internet streaming? I can’t find anything about it.

Better to have a bottle in front of me than a Frontal Labotomy.
Channeling good old W. C. Fields?
FIU runs a Pro set on offense.

6' 3" QB Alex McGough is a 63% passer who can also run when he has to.
His overwhelmingly favorite target is 6'1" WR Thomas Owens (800 yds, 16.7/per), but he will spread it around, including to the RBs.

The running game averages 4.0 yds per carry behind primary ball carrier Alex Gardner, but RB Napoleon Maxwell is a dangerous break away threat and Shawndarrius Phillips can run as well.

This is an offense that ran for 224 yds and passed for 177 in it's win over Marshall.

FIU runs a base 4-3 which can morph into a 4-2-5 or a stacked box depending on the situation.
I really don't have a handle on the FIU defense. It has been good at times, but gave up a lot of yards on the ground vs Charlotte, but lost to Urzua (not Stockstill) and Empty Sue in the air.

Kicker Jose Borregales is 19/19 on XPs and 11/12 on FGs

Bottom line:
We cannot count on stopping FIU like we did UNCC, which gave us a huge TOP advantage, thus keeping our defense fresh. FIU has a balanced and effective offense.
The Panther defense is vulnerable, but with our lack of consistency with the pass, and no Cox, I am not confident at all.
This is a game we can win, but it will take a herculean effort by the defense and some surprise play by SW.

FIU 27 ODU 10.

Love to be wrong, but I'm thinking we end up 4-8.

Agreed. I would also like to be wrong.
Hey, if the Skins can go to Seattle with that raggedy OL and win in front of those fans, anything is possible.
I have no idea what to expect going forward. Before Saturday, I thought we were about to turn a corner. I felt like the defense was better than they had shown in a lot of games, and the offense looked like it was making progress. I guess I am still optimistic that I was half right. I am beginning to think that there isn't much hope for consistent good offense this season, but there is always the chance that we do have a good offensive game here or there. I guess I will just sit back and see how the games unfold.
