So, it finally seems inevitable. We'll need a new (yay!) coach next season. I'm excited to move on.
Anyone have any ideas who our next coach will be?

Everyone wants endless Summers!
I'd think not. But hey, the fan base isn't accustomed to winning and we don't run the triple option!

The Coach Who never punts..

Oh wait...that's our coaching list...nevermind.
Take Cliff Ellis back... I’m sure he can figure out the game. He can do anything.

We've only done this once, and that was 15 years ago, who knows what the administration will be looking for as coach. Don't know if it could be an FCS head coach, a x-P5 head coach, a P5 coordinator, who knows.

The x-P5 head coaches haven't done to well when coming back down. It usually the young coordinators that have had success because they are the ones that are hungry enough to get the job done, but also only stay 2-4 years if they have success. Which I think anyone at our level accepts as normal.

Hopefully John Grass is on the short list.
Here are my thoughts

1) I'd like someone who has been a head coach at least the FCS level that has improved the program and has shown the ability to perform consistently and recruit well

2) I'd like the coach to be younger.

3) Unless the candidate is a VERY strong candidate, I'd prefer that USA not hire an Alabama or Auburn tie in coach. USA needs its own identity. Joey Jones has been very popular....with die hard Alabama fans who don't and will never support South Alabama football in any significant way. I can't even count the number of times I've heard Alabama fans tell me how great Joey Jones is....and then I think to myself...'you'll never go to a USA game, you have no clue about the program, and the only thing you care about USA football is that Joey Jones played for tha' Bear'. Its a long term trap. Lets build our own identity.

I just want some direction from the AD. We need someone, something announced soon, the early signing period is coming fast.
