Enjoy the rest of the season cause I have a feeling he’s going to have larger programs after him real soon.

Hard to see him not having the opportunity to move on up with the job he’s done since he took over.
No doubt it’s trending that way, generally don’t have a problem with them leaving as long as they don’t poach on the way out a la Campbell. Two types of coaches in the MAC those on the way up and those at the end.

I predict he will replace Matt Campbell at Iowa Sate when he leaves for green pastures.
MOB needs to offer him $1,000,000.00 like he did MC. I hope he stays one more year like MC did. Actually, I hope he never leaves.
Anybody else loving it that Fleck is .500% at Minnesota ? They play Michigan Saturday. I hope Michigan beats them 99-0.
You can offer him a million dollars, but he will still leave. I agree that he is going to Iowa State and i think so is our great recruiting class will as well.
You’re all correct. Enjoy it when we can.

I also hope the score is 99-0. And that the winning team starts with M.
Candle might be good but he has to leave now since Woodside is graduating. If he starts over with another QB at Toledo it might be a couple more years before he looks good enough for a better-paying job.

Correct
I'm hoping that Jason stays. Hard to not strike while the iron is hot. One thought, lets say we do end up in Detroit and then a nice bowl. The early signing period might just help us. If this all happens after the signing period they will already have signed before he is gone (unless he pulls a MC and deserts us). Jason did say he likes the early period so teams can't poach our kids. Just hoping he stays.
He's been here several years and he's already left once, so if someone opens a door to financial freedom he'll no doubt walk through it. Hopefully he has done what Tim Beckman did, and that is, hired his replacement. Beckman did a heck of a job with hiring.
If Candle gets the Rockets to Ford Field this year, I can see him getting an offer he might well accept but I don't think it will be Iowa State because I doubt that Campbell is worth the gamble on what his buyout would cost. However Candle has every incentive to move on because next year appears to be a step backwards for the team particularly on offense (the defense should actually be better next year).

What bothers me about that prospect of Candle leaving is that when Beckman left, Campbell was the obvious choice for replacing Beckman in order to ensure a smooth transition and likewise when Campbell left Candle was the logical replacement for the same reason------and besides both were excellent recruiters. Now however, if Candle leaves I don't see an obvious heir apparent as I did the last two times. Jon Heacock might be a possibility although I don't believe he was a favorite with the players like Campbell and Candle were and I don't know if he was a great recruiter or not. National searches are OK if your program is a train wreck that needs resuscitation but if your program is already in good shape what is needed above all else in a coaching transition is to maintain continuity insofar as is possible and I don't have a clue if anyone on the current staff can step up and fulfill that requirement or not.

Actually we are pretty young on both sides of the ball. We will have to replace our QB, but the OL returns, all of our WR's are young. We will be 4 deep at RB next year. DL and DE's and corners return. We need linebackers.

I could coach us to 7 wins, a seasoned coach could have a nice little run. I agree Candle is gone after this season. I would like him to stay, but the $ just isn't there.

If he goes, we should find an older seasoned coach that wants to stay put like Akron and Ohio. Wonder if Jim Tressel would like coach again? LOL
I’d have to believe this program by name and reputation alone would attract multiple well qualified candidates from both power 5 and G5 programs.

But those guys are already making double what candle is making as assistant coaches.

Some are but the opportunity to be a HC at a good G5 program that has decent attendance and generally wins 8-9 games a year will attract a lot of interest.

Even though Woodside is graduating, Toledo could be even better next year.

I can't believe we're already having this discussion about our head coach leaving us...it hasn't even been two full years, feels like he was just hired. Life in the MAC is rough man smh

Rockets are on an upswing and Candle is recruiting to build a real juggernaut.
