First time "we" lost an important game to you this decade.
Our broadcast guy kept insisting the fur balls were our real rival. NIU certainly played us tough on the scoring side. EMU's defense was the only better one we've faced. If NIU's coaches had discovered our well kept secret that we have tight ends it might have been much closer. Nice game, Huskies!

We don't cover tight ends. If you watched any of NIU's games against BG with Matt Johnson, you know that. If a tight end wants to run out for a pass and catch it for a first down, more power to him. We'll just sit back and watch such a clever idea happen before our eyes.
Anyway, congrats, the better team won. Toledo's O-line played well, their WRs got open in about .62 seconds and they actually caught the ball when thrown to them.
We did have a freshman QB vs. Toledo's SR QB, but not sure Childers will really advance under the current tutelage, so we'll see.

You’ll probably beat us next year since I have no clue how we are going to replace Woodside. We’ll have a ton of talent returning but that QB position is wide open for the taking

How do these people ever expect to become rivals with crap threads like this? Any self-respecting rival is in excuse making or wait for next year mode and insulting people's heritage. I feel absolutely no enmity to these people. They aren't in competition for our taxes, recruits, students,...
I think they should just be happy to be our second fiddle.

Recently competitive rivals, but historically non-rivals.
I knew Woodside was good, but I thought the NIU defense would put more pressure on him and would be a difference maker. Your oline was great and that made Woodside even better. Your #1 receiver and tight ends were wide open every time and Woodside didn't miss much. Your defense is solid, but our passing game doesn't put much pressure on the secondary.

As someone mentioned, we can’t be rivals because you guys are too nice. We’ll be pulling for NIU, too, because your success makes our win look better and because you’re good people. But mostly because your success makes our win look better.
I’m not sure how much NIU fans care about being called rivals anymore lol. I know I cared about it when “you” beat “us” every year, but not anymore.

Haha, the best case scenario for the MAC (and us of course) is if we both win out from here. Hopefully our conference can finish strong to end the year.
