I watched this game and the parallels to Toledo (last couple of years) was pretty amazing. OSU dominated both lines of scrimmage, but barely won the game. About a dozen penalties, turnovers at key moments, terrible KO coverage (ok - that was like Toledo vs. NIU around 2011) and an insistence on running the same "east-west" pass to a back out of the backfield even though it kept resulting in net losses on those plays, Then, their better talent wins the game in the end - with the only time they lead the game was with about 1:50 left in the game.

The coaching staff has to be driving Meyer nuts, but his own bad decisions nearly cost them the game. On a second and 14 from around their own 30, Penn State gets called for holding on a play that gains 3 yards. Instead of taking the penalty and making it 2nd and 24, Meyer declines it and makes it 3rd and 11. PSU gains 12 yards for the first down - and goes on to score a touchdown. They would have had to gain 12 yards on 2 consecutive plays to get a first down otherwise. Not much chance of that happening. I was stunned.

I think this year we are similar in some regard to OSU. We make a lot of mistakes, but our overall talent is so much better than anyone else in the MAC. That does not mean we will win every game down the stretch. We have to play with confidence and also be much smarter and cut the penalites out. We can't beat ourselves. OSU got away with it today. Let's hope we don't put ourselves in the same position that they did.

That was one helluva game down in C'Bus. Let's duplicate that in T-Town, but without the mistakes. That will get us the win we need. minate NIU.
I enjoyed reading your comparison. Let's hope we do eliminate mistakes ie: numerous penalties. We are far more talented than NIU. They were lucky to escape with a victory over EMU. So were we. 20-15 was closer than it should've been.
Procedural penalties from the OL are annoying but the face masks really a concern. I don't recall us ever getting that many and they are dangerous. Why grabbing so high?

A LITTLE more conservative on D when the other team has an RB with speed. We might have been able to get a stop on Miami a time or two, they didn't have much at QB and we had no one to watch the RB if he broke the line, which he did, several times.

Otherwise, ecstatic about the defensive play. Thought when we lost Heacock we were cooked but we're still playing aggresive, talent for talent instead of hanging back in DEEP zones.

For all the good game they eventually came around to having, I wouldn't trade our offensive skill set for OSU's if paid.
