Wasn't up to the job no doubt about that.
Just saw this. Beat me to it.

Wonderful timing... Now you guys will come to Troy and play inspired football with possibly a new playbook. If you guys beat us doing some real option trickery I will be upset.

I don't want to hijack this thread so that's all I'm gonna say about that. Oh, and congrats. This really was the best move for your program. Best of luck after Saturday.

Any thoughts on who the interim is and how much of the staff will stay on through December?
Party in Statesboro tonight
Good to see a school hold a coach accountable. I am sure we are stuck with Withers for another year or two.
Congrats?

I fully expect the interim coach either be Chad Lunsford (player favorite who has been an assistant on the last 3 staffs) or Brian Cook (current offensive coordinator).

I wouldn't worry too much about this team as an opponent. The season is shot and by now nothing can really be done.
Congratulations
will Bryan Cook be the interim coach? or is he canned too?
Chad Lunsford will be the interim.
Has Mark Speir ever shown interest or been considered? I would likely not be conducive to your TO addiction.

I would be fine with hiring him, though we would probably have to hit the transfer market to find a suitable QB (not always the most reliable place).

This is my wish list (in order).

1. Mike Houston
2. Mike Ayers
3. Mark Speir
4. Brian Bohannon
5. Jamey Chadwell
6. Brent Thompson
It's official... Chad Lundsford is the interim HC.
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern University Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein announced Sunday that head football coach Tyson Summers has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.

"I thank Tyson and his family for their contributions to Georgia Southern," Kleinlein said. "Being the leader of a college football program is more than just coaching games; it's managing academics and leading 120 young men. Tyson did a great job in areas that the public doesn't see, but at the end of the day, the results on the field weren't where we needed them to be as we continue our growth as an FBS program. I wish he and his family all the best moving forward in their future endeavors."

A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.

In the interim, Kleinlein has appointed current Eagle assistant head coach Chad Lunsford to lead the program. The 2017 campaign marks the ninth season overall, and fifth in his current stint at Georgia Southern for assistant Lunsford, who has worn many hats in his time in Statesboro.

After working with the wide receivers in 2013, Lunsford worked two seasons with the tight ends and served as recruiting coordinator in 2014 and 2015. As he has since 2014, Lunsford continues to coach the Eagle H-Backs/tight ends and serves in the role of special teams coordinator, a title he added in 2016. He was also named the program's assistant head coach in 2017.

"Chad is as 'True Blue' as they come and I'm excited to have him lead our team for the remainder of the 2017 season," Kleinlein said. "The players respect him and I have full confidence in his abilities as we head into the final six games of the season."

Summers, who was in the second year of a four-year contract, was 5-13 at the helm of the Eagles, including an 0-6 start this season. Georgia Southern will play at Troy this upcoming Saturday.

Why in the world would Ga Southern want Mark Speir? He's 25-40 in 5 1/2 years at WCU.
In nearly every case I think firing a coach mid-season is a dumb idea.

The exception is when a team has obviously packed it in for the year and I think getting rolled by an 0-6 team is pretty good evidence a team has packed it in.
Good move GS. From what I've heard, getting rid of your AD maybe a good idea as well, but this is a start.

Or App for that matter, he has stabilized a dumpster fire at WCU but hasn't exactly gone anywhere since.

I'm not concerned about a new play book because they can't learn it in a week. I'd be more concerned about the old one...#GATA
