Since this year is quickly going down in flames, and most discussions have now turned negative, is it too soon to start talking about next year?

May have figured out the Grissom mystery on Saturday. On the field after the game saw him and family. Haven't heard anything about Juco because he's apparently in school at EMU. Would assume he'll be very eager to compete for starting QB job next year.

Will be interesting to see what CC does with Keen after season. We could have a very different offense next year if Grissom is the real deal, and the Cass Tech QB ends up on campus in this class as well.
Yea I said he was coming next year after the Ohio game. Should be good to go for the Spring game.

So is this one of those grey shirt things. Steve will know how this works.

Time to take whatever this Roback/Keen offense is, and toss it in the trash, and start over.

If we can keep Neathery, the D should be solid again. Find a Juco punter, couple receivers, TE, and then build your offense around whoever your best QB is. 3 of the 4 we should have on roster are true dual-threats, so it certainly looks like we're headed in that direction.

I'm perplexed how a recruit who signs a LOI ends up at the school and apparently not on scholarship????

Still wonder if he is at school but not academically qualified to play OR if he did enroll and goes on scholarship after 1st semester.

Gray shirting would mean that his 5 year NCAA clock starts say Jan. 2018 and ends Dec '22.

He could do spring ball and then have 5 football seasons, 2018, 9, 20, 21, 22 to play 4.
Even though I think we will miss what Roback brought to the table more once he is gone, I am excited for the next batch of QBs to take over. With Grissom, Glass, and hopefully Jackson all legit dual threat QBs our offense could look much different the next 4-5 years. Not to forget about Hutchinson, but if I remember he is more of a traditional drop back QB with a gun. I hope that one of them grabs the job from day one and takes us on a ride for 3-4 years.

I'm a fan of Roback. I kind of feel about him as I do about Stafford with the Lions.

Good to very good QB playing behind an OL which isn't together and has a mediocre ground game.

In many respects, their offenses are the same stories.

P.S. The Lions OL may get a lot better when Taylor Decker comes back from IR.

Assume his LOI was null & void when he didn't qualify. Now paying his own freight at EMU to get his academic ducks in order. As soon as he qualifies he'll be given his scholarship and join the team. His clock would start at that time. A grayshirt is used when there is no space in a class, which was not the case here.

Certainly no expert about the qualifying rules, just my guess.

Who knows if he'll actually win the job, but he's definitely the most physically gifted, and highly recruited (by quite a bit) of all the guys we'll have competing for the spot.

Maybe even more important is the future OC. Hopefully the OC, the scheme, and the QB create something more cohesive and effective than we've seen this year.

I would not nix Stiebeling winning the starting job, more time in the system more reps as the current number 2. I'm hoping Buschman gets a medical redshirt.

Good call. I would imagine Jackson would redshirt. Just hope they don’t flip guys in and out. Pick your starter and let him grow.

This is a good point. Getting Bushman, a proven TE, back would be an immediate help at that position. Losing Kilby has hurt this season.
It will be great to have a very good Highschool quarterback coming in next year. Roback is an awesome QB playing in a terrible system. Yes Roback has made some bad decisions trying to go down field; however, Keen's system has regressed every offensive player. Looking at Toledo, Roback played very well except the pick at the end of the game. The first pick was absolutely on the money and bounced off the receiver's chest. The play before the pick, Roback made an incredible throw across the field on 4th down to get us a first down. Not many College QBs could make that throw. The sideline pick was a terrible throw and Roback should be blamed for the pass. However, remember this is Keen's system and players are not being put in positions to be successful. Last year with a different coordinator, Roback led the team on a couple of game winning drives. IMHO, it's not that Roback has regressed but rather we have a horrible offensive system. If we can't win games with arguably a top 2 MAC quarterback, does anyone think we will win with an inexperienced QB? If Neathery stays, our D will be better next year but if Keen is the OC, I predict a worse season. I hope not....but how many 1st year QBs have led their team to divisional championships?

Let's win out!

I heard Grissom is the real deal and I hope he's everything we believe he can be. Hopefully we win a few games to keep recruits signed. The opposing coaches will start negatively recruiting against Creighton now.

Kemp has been playing on a bad knee all year, but is slowly becoming more and more of a contributor. Once he's 100% healthy, he'll be a pretty good pass catching TE. Still need at least 1 more good one because of our current lack of depth.

Nice to see him get a few catches on Saturday. A juco and a freshman would solidify the depth at TE.
Etough, I agree with you about Keen. I think the guy needs to go, so many awful decisions this year in crucial moments -- not utilizing your strengths. Basically lost us 2 games.

Haven't seen or heard of how good Grissom is, probably won't know until winter ball? I don't count MI high school football. What have we heard about Stiebling? He was also fairly highly recruited. What does the defense think of him?

Let's just say we should expect a wide open QB competition for next year.
