As Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast, my friend!"

Barring upsets this weekend, we could have 10 more teams already ineligible after Week 9 than we had at the same point last season. There are going to be a lot of teams in the 5-6 win group this year. It's going down to the wire again.

but more teams overall AND 2 fewer slots..

right now we have 28 eligible. Another 20 have 5 wins. 25 have 4 wins. So 73 teams are between 0-2 wins away from being bowl eligible. So that's not bad. Only need 78. Only have 35 teams with 5 or more losses.

I think something we're seeing is more truly dreadful teams. We have 15 teams with 0 or 1 win. Last year at this point- didn't have a single winless team and we had 8 1 loss teams. So that helps out considerably. So I think we're probably end of the year going to see fewer 4-8 and 3-9 teams and more 2-10 and 1-11 teams. That helps in making teams bowl eligible.
Yep, the likelihood of 5-7 teams being invited to bowls this year is growing by the week and is an almost certainty04-jawdrop
Does a team like FSU get a break due to the hurricane cancellations ? There likely record at this point will be 5-6. I believe the game they missed was UL Monroe. So they most likely would have been 6-6 if not for cancellation. Do 5-6 teams get in over 5-7 teams are are they all on the same APR list?

i think they're on the same APR list.

And that's bad. FSU is 6th worst in FBS. Only ones worse- UMass, La Tech, FIU, Ga Southern, and Idaho.

As you pointed out the number of really bad teams this year is high, higher than I can ever remember. 31 teams already have 5 losses with 5 weeks left in the regular season and all but eliminated from reaching 6 wins. That is nearly 1/4 of the FBS total.

I would not be surprised if FSU now being out of the ACC race does not re-schedule ULM to try and keep the bowl streak alive if the game is needed.

Actually, ULM is willing to play FSU so no, there should be no special consideration given to FSU. They both have an open date on the last week of the season.

Last year, a waiver was extended to USA. LSU cancelled a game scheduled in November so they could play a make up game with UF resulting from a cancellation in September. USA tried to offer its own stadium for the game in September, tried to get a home or away game with any FBS team that still had any dates to give (UMass had one, because they played at Hawai'i, but refused the game). And we also know that UF cancelled the game because they didn't want to play LSU that particular weekend anyway.

This scenario is not applicable to FSU. They can easily simply play ULM on the first weekend of December.

ULM actually has Dec 2nd open whereas most of the SBC is playing that day so this is totally doable.
8 Four win teams that have the best path

Houston - ECU and @Tulane
Northwestern - Purdue. Minn and @Ill
Iowa - Minn and Purde
FAU - ODU and UMASS
UAB - Rice and UTEP (Big Loss to Charlotte has this in question)
UTSA - UTEP and UAB (UAB vs UTSA may decide a bowl team)
Wyoming - UNM and SJSU
Akr St - NMSU, USA, ULM

If it comes down to that, ULM should force FSU to sweeten the pot to play that game, LOL.

BTW, does FSU get to count a win over FCS Delaware State? If not, it is going to go right down to the wire as far as becoming bowl eligible is concerned. They could lose to Boston College this week for crissakes.

FSU hasn't missed a bowl game since 1981, one of the most remarkable streaks in college sports. I was in high school then, that was a LONG time ago, LOL.

They are 25-9-1 in those games, including wins in 11 major/BCS/NY6 bowls.

I think in this case, ULM should just play the game on Dec 2 and not ask for additional considerations, but just let everyone know that they're an 'honest broker' and are willing to work with teams.

For ULM, this can only HELP their bowl chances. I think I would like a big fat check and the chance to play a sputtering Florida State coming off games at Florida and Clemson.

If this was my team (USA) and not ULM, hell yea I want a shot at Florida State this year.
I don't see why ULM wouldn't want to play that game--it's the paycheck they were banking on collecting. ULM has the lowest budget of of all of FBS so they could use the cash. They are also available. The only reason I see Florida St not wanting to play that game is if they are already bowl eligible.
