The clap was perfect. Keep doing it. Although, I'm not sure how it will work if we ever find ourselves getting blown out.

All of the best traditions are based on something accidental or organic that comes up from the fanbase itself. Nothing that the athletics department tells everyone to do is going to stick. It sucks that UAB doesn't have a lot of cool traditions, but that's a side effect of being a young program. Just give it time and be on the lookout for things to latch on to. It also doesn't help that the good ones get actively shot down by the administration like 'Birmingham' jerseys or 'Fire Ray Watts' chants

The "Fire Ray Watts" chant was our chance at an organic, fan-based tradition. Wish we still did it.

You can join myself and Matrix chanting it when the opposing team is kicking field goals. First time we did it was the field goal block in the La Tech game.
I thought it was cool as hell.

We need to try to add the grunt that the Icelanders use with the clap. I think it adds to the effect nicely.

I think we should have the Put Up Your Picks chant instead.

Most places that do the clap do make the grunt sound. I was doing it because that is what you are supposed to do.

This did not come from the top down. This came from me and a few former players and none of us work for the athletic department. We took it to the athletic department to enlist the help of the drum line. It was tweaked to be a little different from Iceland.

Now, if enough people want to "make it our own", they can start chanting U...A....B...U...A...B during the claps. Or, they can alternate "Blazer!"...."Victory"... Or they can come up with something else.

All I know is this: most fans, the players, and Coach Clark loved it, and they want us to keep doing it.
Thanks Dragon.
It was awesome Dragon. I admit I was skeptical but it turned out great. I know I was super pumped afterward and you could see that it pumped up the players.

I admit, I was skeptical too. There was the risk that no one wanted to participate and they just sat there while some of us tried to do it.

So, I credit the entire crowd for jumping in!
