Full Version: WAC FBS is coming back

A lot of posters complain about this topic coming back, but this time it seems to have a lot more circumstantial evidence before.

1. The Lone Star DiI conference took in most of the lowly Heartland Conference to get more members.
2. At least two Lone Star schools have signaled they will move to DI and the Southland Conference. Tarleton St has formed a DI committee and significantly spent money on stadium upgrades and minor sports facilities. Texas a&M Commerce is the other schools that FCS boards say will move up. Both are A&M system universities.
3. The Southland Conference is bloated as it is, and Sam Houston St doesn't want more members because they schedule is already weak. But if Sam Houston St, Lamar, and S F Austin move up to FBS, the Southland will need more teams now. SHSU and Lamar have made noise in the past about FBS but the Belt has flatly rejected them.
4. Both Chicago St and UMKC have made noise about starting football. Could this be the reason that UMKC went to the WAC.
5. UTRGV's football committee still hasn't made a final recommendation. A shiny new minor league soccer stadium will be waiting.
6. Wichita St needs to go FBS to be a full AAC member, but that league won't take a startup team.
7. Mo St needs to be FBS too in order for it to get in on a CUSA reorganization. It's less happy now with the MVC considering that the Shockers are gone.
8. Why hasn't the WAC made more moves earlier to add members from DII. It's like they knew something would happen. Both the former mbb coaches of NMSU and Seattle have said football schools would be added, but that inside information is ignored here.

The Western WAC will not have football. Read it again.
Please stop this nonsense.

Send a note to Weir and Dollar demanding a retraction of their statemnets then if your so offended and self righteous.

Rome was not built in a day and this board doesn't seem to have patience for anything. Any NMSU President and athletic director has been working overtime for them to have a league again, but that takestill time when they have to build it from scratch.
Only FCS will be a possibility.
You've got a lot working against you. Low population density except on the immediate coast where the Pac-12 has already setup shop. A large geographic area to cover as well, so high travel costs in a low population density area. I mean, the P12N is really struggling to try to turn competitive profit. And you're wanting to double down on these problems?

Also, the NCAA wants to stop movement upward from FCS to FBS (Liberty had to threaten legal action to proceed with their studies and plans). And everybody who would be the next most logical call up (NDSU, SDSU, Montana, Montana St, etc) wants absolutely nothing to do with it because they know they'll practically be standing alone if moving up doesn't come with an immediate invite to the MWC.

There needs to be a Sun Belt of the West Coast. But I don't think the WAC is it. The easiest path is to move the Big Sky up ... which would include gutting it of half its membership and back filling with the likes of Idaho, NDSU, SDSU, NMSU, etc.

Needless to say that requires a commish and a lot of ADs with passion, drive, financial backing, and vision. Good luck with that.
