Many UTSA fans Hate North Texas, and we don't care much for them either. Maybe the loss to Southern Miss will keep some from trash talking the week, but I have a feeling the self restraint will quickly pass, and most will be at each other throats by Saturday. Here is a quick rundown of the History of Hate for those wondering just how we got to this point...

2012- UTSA joins the WAC (In the months leading up to the invitation, myself and maybe a few other North Texas fans frequented the WAC board and expressed our displeasure at the addition.=USTA fans didn't appreciate this)

Later in 2012- It was announced that UTSA would be joining C-USA for the 2013 season (Myself, a few other UNT fans, and some UTEP fans expressed our displeasure about this addition = USTA fans didn't appreciate this)

2013- UTSA@North Texas, San Antonio came to Denton and squeaked out a victory (21-13) over our very good HOD Bowl championship team. (This loss kept UNT for the C-USA title game, and it has been perceived that UTSA fans generally annoyed the UNT fans and were not very respectful of our stadium = North Texas fans didn't appreciate this)

2015- In a season of unprecedented losses, and under the guidance of an interim head coach, North Texas earned our only victory of the season by topping an almost equally miserable UTSA team 30-23 in Denton.(After pointing out our terrible loss to Portland State for a large portion of the season, North Texas fans were quick to point out that UTSA had now become the only team to lose to our team = USTA fans didn't appreciate this)

2016- Leading up to this game at the Alamodome, players on both sides openly expressed their dislike for each other. North Texas lost the game. ( "allegedly" at some point North Texas players pissed on the UTSA field. North Texas went on to recieve a Heart of Dallas Bowl invitation despite a 5-7 record, while UTSA (6-6) was sent to New Mexico. = USTA fans didn't appreciate this)

Which bring us to the 2017 addition of this clash of Good (North Texas) vs. Evil (UTSA). 04-cheers

What is the origin of this rivalry?

I really can't tell you. Many North Texas fans do not even view it as a rivalry. It seems fans and players have different reasons for their hate of the other's university. The writing above only summarizes some of the areas of contention between us.

That was certainly the spark.
I see the nt offense being too much. A close game as we had in sa this week but i think nt wins it.

Well, the lack of respect went both ways in 2013 though. Some of ours were disrespectful toward yours, but some of yours were disrespectful toward ours as well, and our team. Also, our team reacted inappropriately to the fans heckling them behind our bench. Shouldn't happen, I know.

You left out 2014 btw. We won 34-27.

And it's UTSA. It's really not difficult; just one letter more than UNT.
UTSA was invited to C-USA, despite not "earning it" by being a mediocre football team for 100 years like North Texas Community College = NTCC fans didn't appreciate this

UTSA has an alum who owns a bunch of Yum! brand franchises (including KFC) and frequently runs giveaways for UTSA tickets = NTCC fans didn't appreciate this for some reason

North Texas AD Wren Baker recently referred to UTSA as a community college, presumably after applying for UTSA's AD job and never getting a call back = UTSA didn't appreciate this

And I'll just leave this right here:

I thought hate week was any week ODU and UTEP played each other in anything. You know, 2,000 mile of animosity and all.

For what its worth, many Southern Miss fans have bellyached about the new additions to CUSA but as we get out azzes kicked a few more times by the noobies, We might start to see the good in these programs. For UNT and UTSA, I see two really good Texas teams with alot of great fans, good facilities, and growing support. We need rivalries to grow to build interest. This is a very exciting game for CUSA this weekend. There are others as well. This is good for CUSA.
I hate you both!

This isn't even remotely close to true. Wren became AD last year, while Hickey was still the AD at UT San Antonio. If you're gonna trash talk, at least have some substance to it. "Hur dur North Texas Community College" is pretty weak.
Other Notes:

You forgot when Mason Ybarra (OT/OG?) for UNT called the UTSA defensive line "soft and untalented" after UTSA whooped them in Denton in 2013. I believe it was a quote from Brett Vito in the local Denton Rag. Comment made no sense considering Ybarra spent most of the game backpedaling or on his back.

Also forgetting how local Dentonite, Josiah Tauaefa really wanted an offer from UNT to play for his hometown team. Somehow, UNT coaching passed on the 3-star Tauaefa who later signed a LOI with UTSA. In 2016, Josiah Tauaefa was named Defensive Freshman of the Year in CUSA and was an honorable mention for that same distinction nationally.

Tauaefa wasn't recruited by our previous staff, and he said as much in the CUSA media days. Said he doesn't have anything against the current staff because they weren't there. That has about as much merit as saying we went 1-11 in 2015. Sure it's true, but it's a completely different staff and system. I will be the first to hate on Dan McCarney and his staff, because they were garbage, but Littrell is clearly righting the ship in recruiting and coaching.

While Y'Barbo's comments were stupid, we had the same conference record and a better overall record than UT San Antonio in 2013.

I know the quote is from last week. I'm saying it's idiotic to think Wren would call for the UT San Antonio AD job considering he just got hired. Especially to a school like yours.

LOL. UNT is such a great job that no one would ever leave after just a year. Right.
Interesting to note that Vegas is not giving UNT much credit. UTSA opened up as a 4 1/2 point favorite on the road.

A tier one university with a president that DOESN'T molest people? Yeah, it's a pretty sweet gig. No wonder Hickey left, she was probably tired of the sexual advances from your trash president.
