I will probably regret starting this thread, but I wanted to see if anyone else noticed, or if I am just paranoid. But... When exiting Legion Field with several thousand other fans, why are most of the gates locked, forcing everyone to squeeze through a single gate, single-file, up to 5 minutes? To me this looks like a safety issue, especially in the event of an emergency. Not only is 1 gate open, but the turnstiles are still in place, with some fans actually going through them as they exit, rather than walking around them.

I'm not trying to start a "Bash Legion Field" thread, as the 2 games this year have gone exceptionally smooth, with great traffic control, clean restrooms, awesome concessions, etc.
even the gate people were complaining that they had closed gates, so no idea whose idea it was or why they did it.
This isn't something new. The home side exits always seemed to have several gates closed.
Maybe its not new, but Saturdays game was the first time that it was so crowded with people trying to get out of gate 5, there wasnt room for people to get out of the elevator to exit. They had they turnstiles in place meaning there were just 3 human width gaps for hundreds of people to fit though causing a human wall of people that was trapping folks in the elevator.
They had the same deal after the 1st game.
Send issues to AD.
Maybe it's to make people walk through the turnstiles backwards to reduce the attendance numbers. 05-stirthepot
So, If the powers that be and Birmingham decide to put and build an open air Stadium do they have to go through the BoT. or the city, county or the bjcc who has the deciding power.
Sounds like to me that it makes absolutely no sense at all for the individuals who closed most of the gates to have closed any gates, at all, until everyone at the game has exited Legion Field.

That problem should be immediately addressed and corrected. Who is the individual who administrates the closing of gates after the game ends?

Simpson Pepper said all exits leading out of Legion Field Stadium are open. There is no need to congregate at one gate. They still play recording some time on high school game of the week. The Park Board starting locking gates at Legion Field during high school games to keep folks in a smaller space to keep an eye on them.

The BoT should have nothing to do with a stadium at the BJCC. I hesitate to say that they will have absolutely no input, given how rich and influential they are, but so far as I know the existing plans (and they are pretty extensive at this point) involve mostly the BJCC board and the UAB Gang of Seven. I'm sure that there is some city/county input but I suspect that is relatively minor on the scale of things.

I know that there are people on the board with far more direct knowledge than I have. Feel free to correct any inaccuracy.

Simpson Pepper must be blind if he thinks the exits were all open at our last 2 home games. No way, Jose'
i would be willing to bet some major fire codes were violated. maybe some calls need to be made to the AD pointing that out and that we will be reporting those violations if its not corrected. proof is simple with cell phone videos. one exit for 20,000+ people is just asking for another Cincinnati December 3, 1979
So now the fire Marshall will be shutting down UAB football?
Simpson Pepper is dead.

Jeffco schools had their very own "DR PEPPER" who did the PA announcing at Legion Field for many years as a seasonal part time job. His "day job" for many years was being principal of Jones Valley High School. It is my understanding that he had an earned doctorate degree in Education -- hence, was legitimately "Dr Pepper".
I sent the issue to the AD since no one else wanted did and it will be addressed. The lack of gates open was a LF issue for the A&M game and the lack of gates open after the game is also their issue. Operations told them they needed more gates open.

As I said send issue to the athletic department so they can be addressed.
I'm not sure but I think Simpson Pepper actually announced some UAB games up until when Scudder took over.
Scudder had previously done Samford games.

Maybe someone can provide/verify info on who has announced the games at Legion Field for UAB.
I can assure you, Simpson Pepper never announced a down of UAB football.
