However, as long as nobody gets hurt, and Williams gets good experience in the game I still think we will be OK in CUSA. CUSA is better this year though. Marshall, FAU and UNT will not be easy games at all. MTSU and WKU are likely losses while FIU and UNCC and Rice are likely wins. Don't slip up and we should beat FIU, UNCC, and Rice, but we will need one more out of the other five to go bowling. Hopefully thats FAU in Norfolk. I'm optimistic that can happen. Next season is looking brighter too.

UNCC lost to a fcs team from the MEAC 07-coffee3

In the press conference Bobby said he came back one night at 10 pm and say Williams and asked him what he was doing and he said he just wanted to run through all the plays on the practice field with the freshman RB and WRs.

I also agree with Bobby on this......we are not outclassed in size by teams like we used to. They did seem faster, especially on defense. Hard to gauge their passing blocking, they got rid of the ball so quick. They ran block very well.

I know we only had 1 sack but there were a couple times where the defensive end made the right read on a swing pass and the QB went down behind the line of scrimmage on his own.

Im still bitter that they didn't call a hold against 44 on that long QB TD run. Bobby was way more pissed than I have ever seen him.

Stevie Williams
Passing: 9 for 20 for 139 yards. With a 71 yard TD pass. 2 TDs and 1 sack.
Rushing: 7 rushes for 20 yards. 19 yard run. 1 Fumble.

Take out the 71 yard TD pass and 19 yard run would we all feel excited this morning? 05-stirthepot

SMH at that kind of stupidity.

Take out the fumble, put in a TD, take out the sack, take out the two interference calls -- would the sun stand still?

I'll disagree a little bit about the size on the lines. I think our starters are there, it is just a matter of getting our 2nd and 3rd stringers there. I also think we are outsized (maybe outmatched is a better word) in terms of how much size and athleticism the P5 lines have.

Exactly, the end went to pull away from his block and the tackle clearly still had a hold of his jersey. Both of the blatant pass interference calls in the second half the ref closest to the play didn't throw the flag. It came from the ref 15 yards away.

Exactly! Those should have been recorded as sacks!

He also claims he can still ball and gave UNC a pregame talk (when he just yelled at UNC from outside their bus). What a delusional turd.

-His MyLife profile says he is 48 and lives in Hampton.
https://www.mylife.com/john-lego/e472051512456

-He is also a "professional" fisherman
https://www.flwfishing.com/anglers/john-lego-116883

-He may have some association with the coal industry, which might explain his fondness for WVU

-I found his address and a pic of his home I will not post that here.

Hehe he is a football fanatic. WVU jersey, VT jersey, Tenn jersey.
He seems to have better than normal access to players, but I could not find him associated with any media organization or as a coach anywhere.

I have complete faith in Ron Whitcomb to develop the next great Quarterback at ODU. He is a great developer of talent and a very under rated QB coach. Have faith.

Agreed

Steven Williams Jr. is the answer. Immensely talented and a great leader. Will be a 4 year starter beginning either this year or next.

The kid is a freshman.... I doubt his leadership is at the level of great.

I have reports that he is already a leader and the most talented QB ODU has ever had, including Heinicke. Not a guarantee on how he will perform, but the outlook is very good.

If Williams becomes an ODU great over the next 4 years, maybe a future NFL prospect, I'd imagine a P5 school is going to come calling Whitcomb's name. His record is speaks for itself: DeMarco, Heinicke, Washington, and now, possibly Williams.
Looky what I posted back in the summer.

(08-12-2017 12:35 PM)ODUalum78 Wrote: [ -> ]Under normal circumstances, there would be no question as to Williams taking a redshirt.
However, this is not a normal year. We are peaking at a number of positions, and thus are going to field our best team ever; maybe for a few years to come.
We have a phenomenal chance to make a statement in CUSA. It is hugely important for recruiting and indeed our brand.

Don't think for a minute that the coaches weren't aware that TH was our best QB very soon after he walked on campus. Only a confluence of injuries allowed him to play as a true Freshman.
Early on I was of the opinion that Williams would redshirt, and he still may.
However, IF he is the best QB (as I and others have heard from scuttlebutt) I strongly suspect that, unlike Heinicke, he will play, and probably start, at some point in the season.

We can recruit QBs every season; and the better we are this season, the more our potential to get top notch recruits in the coming years.
Thus I don't believe we need to "worry" about whether Williams will be a future four year starter. We need to put our best out there from day one.

IMHO, this season is that important.

Lighting Up VT would be a great start to his career.02-13-banana
Wilder says UNC starters were in until about 10 min left in the game, which sounds about right. FWIW
With Duhart and Lawry both going on Medical redshirt. Will they be able to play next year though they are seniors this year?

If they are on scholarship, does the school cover a grad program? Or do they just take filler classes?

I have no idea how this stuff works.
