I believe this would increase attendance dramatically, pay for itself and open up many new businesses partnerships for NIU and NIU Athletics. It's got to get done now! Also do wonders for recruiting.
In light of any possible conflict of interest do you or any friend or family member have any connection to this company?
Nope! I just googled cost basketball video boards and it came up. I personally feel a video board like this would do so much for our basketball teams and the university as a whole. Games, attendance, recruiting, concerts, graduation, job fairs, aid in recruiting new students it's endless the potential for new business partners and so many things. I could careless what company it comes from. We are losing out on many great opportunities. The Convo screen is outdated and unviewable. I have always felt that NIU has a basketball size fan base. What I mean by that is we will never have a big football fan base or attendance but with basketball we could be pretty solid. 5 or 6 thousand at the Convo may be more attainable than 25k at Huskie Stadium.
Every single basketball game was a sell out my freshman year. Of course we had a great team in 1971. We had to line up at 6:30 a.m. to ensure we got tickets when the box office opened. Good times.
I believe that a new video cube thing was already in the plan for the Convo a few years ago but I believe money is the issue.

Other than our current screen looking outdated I don't think a new screen is really going to make that much of an impact for anything other than advertising.

A first maybe but no one is going to show up to a second game because of a new screen in the Convo.

No good recruit is going to pick NIU because of a new screen in the convo.

No High School kid is going to pick to go to NIU because the screen might be used for their graduation.

I'm thinking about cancelling my season tickets because of the video screen. So they'd better change that screen.....quickly!

Only because you want close up HD shots of the cheerleaders...
Huskie John, you couldn't be more wrong! Advertising is business partners. Take the video board out of Huskie Stadium and just have a scoreboard without video. It all makes a difference. NIU is not going to do any of the master plan to the football stadium. The Convo needs a better video board and it's up to power 5 conference status.
Concerts, job fairs, trade shows so many things would be better thus making the Convo a more prime venue for events!
I think we should get a scoreboard like Wrigley Field. Guys in the scoreboard change the numbers with every basket scored. For video, we can suspend an old B/W TV from the ceiling. We need to save money, and this would be a great way to do it!

Advertising was the only thing I agreed with you so I am confused how you think I am wrong about agreeing with you.

We have video in the convo now...so other than some minor improved advertisements I am not sure what you think the Convo can cash in on.

"NIU is not going to do any of the master plan to the football stadium" What??? Come on, the top priority of athletics is the East side premium structure. That would actually bring in money in the short term and relatively BIG money in the long term once its fully funded/paid off.
Huskie John, if you can't afford or raise the money to fix the video screen at the Convo then it's very unlikely you can raise the money for Huskie Stadium improvements. You agree that it would help advertising. I believe you are wrong that that's the only benefit to it. I believe what the North Florida coach and Athletic Director said about the many benefits their video screen added to their basketball team and other sports. No project is going to be started at Huskie Stadium anytime soon!
Just because the East side project is Athletics main priority doesn't mean it's going to ever happen or happen within the next 5-10 years. I believe your top project should be fixing your multi-use arena before you fix a stadium that hosts around 80k people and every other year a few high school games. How many millions do you need to start the stadiums improvement? How much for the Convo video screen?

I don't think you've read what the plan for the east side structure is, or else you wouldn't just equate it to just the football team, because that's not the plan at all. The video board in the convo is so low on the priority list it's laughable, you need to bring the football stadium into this century before anything else.
Ok! Let me know when that starts or a announcement about it starting! In the meantime if I was having a concert, a religious convention, high school graduation or other events I would choose a different location than the Convo. Question for Dogpound and or HuskieJohn: When do you think construction will start on the EastSide stadium project?

The 1971 team was the best ever at NIU. It was great seeing a sold-out Evans Field House for every game. But, to be fair, the capacity of Evans Fieldhouse was only 4600 in 1971. Evans FH seating capacity was expanded to 6076 a few years after that.
Needed...new toilets in Huskie Stadoum

They'd probably die of boredom.

Prime venue for events???? For whom? Dekalb county is not that populated. Who is traveling to Dekalb for a trade show?
