Anybody remember the original 1990 TV series featuring Tim Curry as Pennywise? I remember it scaring the bejesus out of me back in the day. It was on TV last night and my 9 year old wanted to watch. Well, he made it to the bathroom sink scene and that was it. There is a new "It" movie being released today in movie theaters. I think I may go check it out; however, with this version the clown looks freakier and it's rated R, so no kids.

My 15 year old wants to see it. She can probably handle the movie.
Tim Curry is great. He's been in so many good shows through the years. His health is pretty bad though - suffered a major stroke a few years back and is now confined to a wheelchair.

Horror movies didn't scare me then but they scare the crap out of me now.

It's the opposite with me. I tried to explain to my son that it's not real and there are lots of folks with movie cameras just out of the picture but that didn't work. I think it's the music more than anything. The new "It" looks scarier though and the clown is creepier as well. Probably why this version is rated R and the previous version was on television.

Loved the book. Not sure how much the movie can catch from the book but I will check it out.
From the reviews I've seen, people seem to be sh*tting their pants over the remake. It's apparently really good. I can do creepy and scary, I just hate jump scares. I find them annoying.

The original apparently differed from Stephen King's book by quite a bit, especially the ending. I guess that was to be expected with a TV budget though.

Well, this one, if it's anything like the original, will have some jump scares. I mean, just seeing a clown doing nothing wouldn't be that scary, right?
nope....but back in the early 80s, they showed "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on the west end/ south side of The Rock.....
ol' Stevie had his moments.....however, he's simply just a another ****** up hipster freak o' nature.....

I saw the original IT over the weekend as well. I remember being scared crapless when I first saw it. This time around I found it hokey. The special effects in the 1990 version are just terrible and absolutely stupid insertions.
Tim Curry rocked it as Pennywise though.
My neighbor saw the current version, and he *really* enjoyed it. Said it didnt 'scare' him, but really, really disturbed him. And this is the guy that laughed during the Russian Roulette scene in the Viet Cong POW camp in The Deer Hunter....
The old movie version differed a lot from the book in the ending. But the ending in the book pissed me off. It was like '400 pages of really creepy sh-t, then decides in the last two pages to make it a really stupid ending' (sorry, no spoilers here, but I felt like King got a call from his publisher that said if he didnt have his draft in in two hours he lost his bonus, and just vomited a cliche and completely non-sequitur 2 page ending onto page 398.)

Yeah, the ending is hokey and a significant part from the book's ending wasn't included in either the TV version nor the current movie version. Probably a good thing as people would probably go nuts if it was included.

I try to separate reality from movie fantasy. I don't care what's happening on the outside as long as the I enjoy the movie. Life is better that way, IMO.
