1) an easier chance to cheat and make up votes; and
2) their belief that study, lazy uninformed people who can't be bothered to register will vote for the Democrats.

Another possible explanation is to bolster election integrity.

Make it national!

Make automatic registering will only create that opening for cheating. If you can't register personally then you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Even jurors are selected from the voter registrations. That's why many don't vote and if you went the Tommy way they'd be Ps'ed off royally.

Dunno for sure about Texas but in South Carolina whenever you move you are required within 10 days to update your address on your DL and vehicle registrations so this should not be a factor here.

That's exactly the whole point of Voter ID laws. How long before you support poll taxes for black persons? Of course this is, in effect a poll tax.

Some people don't even have drivers licenses.

Are the taxpayers going to pay them for lost wages as they spend 1 full day getting a new id every time they move to comply with the law? While white property owners don't have to do this as often, due to the fact that they're wealthier and own their own homes.
