I wish I had known about this ODU message board when I was a student. Seems like most of us are older alumni or recent grads, but I dont see many current students. I think if students now saw how much we care about ODU sports and voice our opinions about the school and athletics. Maybe that could make the current students care a little more and strengthen our fan base. Student attendance and interest seem to be lacking a little these days.

So maybe posting links or Twitter or Facebook? Not sure so looking for ideas.

Just a thought.
Send us all back to the 90s, when message boards were more cutting edge.

We're the 1 percenters here 04-rock I wanna say the last time we had a known current student on here he/she threaten to kill us all and blowup the lion's den. 03-lmfao I think he or she is content at PennState now 02-13-banana or maybe a mental institution 05-stirthepot
haha that's a good point Cynic. This is a fairly traditional, as far as web platforms, method of communicating with a large group. Not far removed from it's BBS ancestors. But even still it's much more effective than twitter or instagram, just not as convenient maybe.
Yeah, we would absolutely have generation gaps present. =] I'm 37 and would help translate to the best of my ability.

Ugh. I hadn't thought of that. I have a 9 month old and a 5 year old. I forget I waited quite a while to have kids. But you're right I got friends with kids in college already.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.
Kids these days use Slack, Discord, and Yik Yak(?). The last one is the only one I'm not familiar with.

Maybe we should just stroll around on campus and hand out business cards telling them to come here for free things. By things I mean messages.

Glad you're here, but my guess is the OPs point was we need more traditional students here. The ones that should be in the Monarch Maniacs, leading the cheers and heckling, sneaking booze into the student section and starting the traditions etc.
I think current students becoming active on ODUbbs would be a good thing, assuming the adolescent angst and semi-frequent drunk posting was contained. Imagine our in-jokes and shenanigans leaking into the student population. I'm sure Planters Bowl would catch on as a way to spice up games against an otherwise milquetoast conference opponent. The Norfolk campus could also be a fertile recruiting ground for Rhombus. Did I mention that I think this is a good idea?

I agree. I was simply letting Aimhigh know that I am a current student... and am not going to blow anything up.

The current student body does not appear to be very active with sports. The few different groups I am apart of (Student Vets Association, ASQ Lean / Six Sigma, and some research stuff) are all lacking bodies. The SVA one kills me.. 25% of the student body is tied to the military one way or another. SOOOO many resources available that people are not using.

I had similar experiences when I was at ODU. There is so much the school offers and so many opportunities, benefits and experiences to be had. I used to see commuters sitting in their cars between classes bored, or would hear a student or grad say there wasn't much to offer or do around campus and I would be baffled. There were so many social, athletic and academic groups to be involved with. Between the radio station, student newspaper, academic department activities, rec sports, campus ministry involvement, Monarch basketball etc I was out of time for anything else other than class and homework. Those were some of the best times of my life. I always tell prospective ODU students that their experience will be what they make of it, but that ODU has plenty to offer if they look for it.
With any college/university, your experience is what you make of it. Some people are lazy and don't do anything and blame it on the university not providing things for them.
I think it's hipster to not be into sports right now quite honestly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdwchohlMjI sums up a large cross sections of a generations view of sports in a parody video. Which is hilarious to me still. =]

VCU is the most hipster place in Va and they get a good student turnout.

Got to admit, I've never heard of any of these. Then again I come from a time where we did punch cards and had to wait 4 days to see if our program even worked.
