Objectivism is another movement that started out with the best of intentions that ultimately failed because the cult leader became increasingly erratic as she aged. Towards her end, her movement fractured because some of the group weren't "pure enough" for the movement of true believers. There's no doubt that the woman had an influence in libertarian thought; however, the irony of it all was she loathed libertarianism.

Anthem was required reading for Sr English in my HS. I liked the story. Her writing sucks though - especially Atlas Shrugged. If I "hear" Dagny Taggart whisper once more time...I'll punch her in the throat. Referencing the phrase peppered throughout the book hundreds upon hundreds of time..."Yes", she whispered

IMO, she's unreadable.....

Her writing is pretty cartoonish, so a graphic novel isn't far fetched. The characters are caricatures of the best vs worst in humanity. Hell, look at the names she gives to the protagonist characters vs the antagonist characters. Are you rooting for "Maximus Armstrong" or "Larry Limpwrist"? And the stories themselves are grossly simplistic, i.e. would you rather find the city of gold or catch cancer and the clap?

She can make some great points, but so much of it is based on strawmen that it can be tedious to unpack the good from the trash.

My SR year of high school English was strictly Ayn Rand and Hemingway. We read Anthem, Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead in one semester. At 17 it was a little heavy, but it served me well through my college career.

I too am no fan of Ayn Rand and her beliefs. I would love to hear why you don't care for her since you and I clearly differ on many issues.

i would say she would consider herself more of a philosopher than an author. she may not be the best writer and a tad hokey, but i flew through her novels

I had to read some of her books in college.

And to think people consider colleges liberal.

I don't accept the concept of her altruistic selfishness.

She may have been sincere but the vast majority use it as moral cover for why they get to ignore the poor.

It took me AGES to get through the books I had of hers.
