The Charlotte 49ers are preparing for their Sept. 1 season-opener at Eastern Michigan.

Here's some notes on where the team stands.

QB Hasaan Klugh, who started the last seven games of 2016 and orchestrated the 49ers first three wins in Conference USA play, is locked and loaded with the ones at the QB spot.

"Hasaan's had a good two weeks of practice," Lambert said. "He's really doing a good job of leading our offense and leading our football team all the way around. Really pleased from that standpoint."

At the running back spot, where the 49ers need to replace Green Bay Packer free agent signee Kalif Phillips, Lambert is looking to Robert Washington and Benny LeMay, a pair of sophomores who made good impressions in 2016 in supporting roles. In addition, Lambert has moved red-shirt freshman Aaron McAllister from his DB spot to running back.
In the Lines in the Sand thread I picked EMU to win in a close game because they are the home team. Here's hoping you guys go up there and hang their first loss of the season on them and prove me wrong.

04-cheers
Please, do not lose to Eastern Michigan

It is away so we will probably win. You can count on us losing our home games though.

Was a joke, but let me know when we win a home game against an fbs team. Hasn't happened yet.
ODU is 3-0 against EMU and 2-0 against UNC-C; so it'll be interesting to watch two inferior programs do battle.

EMU has improved a great deal in the last two years. Chris Creighton has gotten it done in his first 3 years at the helm. He was a good hire that has motivated not only the team, but the community and is pointing the Eagles in the right direction. He certainly has seen improvement on the field. They will not be an easy team to beat at home this year.

EMU is also return a ton of players from last year. Phil Steel has them ranked #48 out of 130 with 14 Starters coming back, including last years starting QB.

Good Luck to the Niners, the info you shared all sounds great.

Came to say this. EMU had a salty finish last year. They'd be a good win for UNCC.
We played well against EMU last year when we pulled Olsen and replaced him with Klugh. The hole was too deep though and we weren't able to come back.

Emu will be prepared for Klugh this time though, so we lose the element of surprise. I feel good about Klugh and the offense though. I'm just really worried about our defensive line.
Hope CHarlotte wins, but I think eMU rolls them here. Charlottes defense is not looking good and Im not sure the QB can win games with his arm.

Yeah, I'm sure you've done a lot of research on Charlotte's defense.

Yeah, and on the flip side, please show me where you or anyone else expected us to win our first FBS game ever and 3 FBS road games last year, especially at USM and Marshall. Also, all your "jokes" are the same ( Charlotte sucks, blah blah, haha). I bet you're great fun to be around at the games. Of course, I'm guessing you rarely show up for any. I mean, why would you right? You know all the outcomes ahead of time.

I've been to all but a few games and to away games at Presbyterian and Georgia State.

Definitely thought we could win the Georgia State games otherwise I woulsnt have gone. You're right though, I didn't expect to beat USM or Marshall before the season startes, but after Marshall showed they were a bad team, I thought it was a winnable game. Never expected the USM game to go the way it did though.

Fans like you that are overwhelmingly positive even when we have an exceptionally poorly run and performing athletic department only provide ammunition to our awful leaders that they are doing things well. We are one of the worst athletic programs in cusa and there is no reason for that to be the case.

We have strong facilities and used to have great support for our programs. Years of incompetence and poor results have pushed a lot of.people away. Apologists that blame the fans are worse than the administration that failed those fans.
Heh....Huntington High School could've beaten us last year...I'm surprised we won two conference games...that being said, a win is a win....you all had a great season

We're not one of the worsts in CUSA but we do have one of the least ambitious ADs in the country and that hurts athletics alot.

Well, he is right about Klugh. He threw the ball terrible in the last 3/4 games.
I don't know how much of that was the injuries on the line, or the hit scoring against Marshall, or lack of receivers, but his legs made him effective during the last half of the season.
