Is Red Bird association a requirement? Seems that it would be a lot better to add seats to main field at Mike Rose and be near the fan base. Than having to drive all the way down town and play in baseball stadium.

Plenty of room on opposite of field to add new grandstands.

90% of the fan base for soccer in Memphis live in the suburbs. The Red Birds are seeing small crowds these days(last in PCL in attendance in 2015 and next to last in 2016) and Memphis has a much larger fan base for baseball than soccer. You will not get the majority of soccer fans to drive downtown to see games.

Tiger soccer games are free and played next door to the majority of the fan base and the crowds are all but invisible.

USL for years was dead set against expanding to cities where game would not be played in actual soccer facilities. They have changed their minds and allowed such non soccer stadium to get into larger communities in order to compete head to head with the NASL for Div 2 status. Only 2 teams are drawing 5 figures per game.

Autozone only has a capacity of 10,000 and t over half of those will not be suitable for viewing a soccer match . Leaving about 4,000-5,500 actual seats available for use. Mike Rose holds 2,500 as is currently without the addition of a grand stand on the opposite side of pitch. Which could easily be brought up to 7,000 capacity with every seat a prime seat.

Im not even going to respond to your arguments they are reasonable but wrong.

The reason the post is stupid is that the REDBIRDS owners are the ones looking to bring the team to town.

COMPLETELY and totally off-base. Go by Celtic or Brass Door sometime on game days.
Yeah, because young downtowners and midtown folks with kids don't do the soccer thing at all...

Have you EVER been to a Redbirds game. While the crowds are not like they once were, they are very respectable. I have been to plenty of games and the crowds are there, especially on Saturday nights.
If the Redbirds own the soccer team, you would imagine they want to fill their stadium.

Next to last in PCL after years of battling Sacramento for attendance title in minor league baseball. But the baseball fan base in Memphis is more than likely 10 times that of soccer.

With the majority of that fan base 7-13 year old. NOT a demographic to build a franchise on. Especially since they do not have the mobility to travel down town on their own.

Median age of MiLB fan is 44 years old. 65% married. 57% employed full time. Median income $75,000. 78% own their own home.

40% of MLS fans make less than $40k a year.

The USL season is 15 games with the median league attendance being around 3,500.

So, what's your point?

It isn't like you would go to any games either way.
The last MLS exhibition here drew about 30 fans in the Liberty Bowl. Granted that was 15-18 years ago and it turned cold as could be. Historically the complex does not take on any projects for which it cannot pay. Fences broken? They stay broken until the money is there. Only one restroom facility to serve 116 acres? It was that way for well more than its first 10 years. When soccer is played in Busch they bring bleachers and VIP seating in around the field.

What percentage of ANY sports fan is like you?

Sits on the couch doing nothing and never attends ANY sporting event and complains about EVERYTHING.

There needs to be a rule when people register for any sports forum.

They should have to produce a ticket stub showing that they have attended any sporting event in the last 10 years. If that rule were enforced, raceman would not be allowed to join any sports forum.
If you want to give the appearance of top notch or major league, you play in that facility. I've been to many minor league stadiums, some brand new. None even compare to 18 year old AutoZone Park. It really is a 10,000 major league stadium. if you play in a glorified, but nice, high school facility such as Mike Rose, people equate the team playing there with the facility. I honestly have questions whether this soccer franchise will work or not, but I understand how for it to have the best chance of success, it needs to be at AutoZone Park. I was in Birmingham last weekend and saw the AA Southern League Barons at their fairly new (6 years) Regions Field. Super nice facility. Anyhow they had a big banner inside the stadium for their new USL team starting in 2019. The Baron's owners obviously have the same thought processes as the Redbirds. Great, right sized facilities equals the best chance of success.
Does anyone know how they are going to configure the field?
As usual, raceman doesn't have a clue about what happens at the Redbirds game. Almost 11k people there tonight. Another great crowd, another Birds win.

I would assume a lot like this:

Yet they are AVERAGING a little over 5,100. This is according to MiLB official numbers. Which makes them 13th out of 16 PCL teams. 38 games over .500 and on average playing in a half filled stadium.

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp...tt&lid=112

AND Since Auto Zone Park only has seating for 10,000 that means you would have to had every seat filled and the grassy area packed completely full. To reach 11,000. Which may happen but only a rarity.

Do wish you would actually do research before you open your completely ignoramus mouth. Of course most likely you are still arguing with a map.

There is an old saying which you would do good to remember. " It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

Between the newness wearing off and the high crime rate, many people do NOT want to travel down town at night to see a ball game.
Please.

People travel from elsewhere in the city/metro to spend time downtown every single night.

NOT FAMILIES from the suburbs

Which make up 80%+ of the soccer fan base. The only real large soccer fan base INSIDE the city is the latino population and they do not take part in large numbers in general population actives outside their communities.

Got a link for that statistic? I heard that 76.4% of all soccer fans live inside the beltway.
