Had some time to explore USM's master plan over the weekend. It is largely being followed to a "t." Most goals have been met since the mid-2000s. This is in spite of budget cuts by Dewey Phil and lower enrollment. Perhaps athletic facilities will be among future priorities now that most academic buildings have received attention, as well as student housing.

Mind posting a link to the plan? I haven't viewed it in a while.

Lotta bitching here, but USM has done well to have been given so little support.

I agree. I just wish it would extend to athletics, since traditionally that was among our greatest strengths. Academics seem to have been doing well since Aunt Martha bade us adieu. Both Martha and Shelby Freekin' Thames did some highly questionable things. So far Bennett has not, unless you count Flamingogate. I kind of think his hands were tied on that one.

For us out of Towners, what is flamingo gate?
It's a matter of money. Just look at the money State and OM get yearly, just for being in the SEC. It isn't, sadly, a matter of winning. But that's the landscape. Those universities are older and have benefited from their more successful conference mates. USM, conversely, is more successful that its mates, former and current, and has done so with less money.

I want USM to have more as much as anybody, including covering the stained concrete. But I'd take an overachiever over an also ran any day!

Pi Kappa Alpha stole two (?) flamingos from the zoo. They ended up getting disbanded, and Sigma Nu (frat that got kicked out of the house next door back in the late 1990s) got their house.

To me, it seemed like a hell of a thing to do over a couple of birds. Hell, you have to kill two birds to get a serving of 8 chicken wings (which really should be called 4 chicken wings, but hopefully you get it).

Again, though, I don't think Bennett had much leeway in how this was handled. I doubt the Pike national office had much of an appetite for supporting that chapter after flamingo blood had been shed.

Never was my cup of tea, either; I'm just not the sort of guy who's willing to bugger up a flamingo to look cool 03-lmfao. I do think it's a good thing for a school to have.
