The Tigers allowed more than 200 rushing yards five times – those just happened to be all five losses. 23 of the 28 rushing scores were given up in those five games, too. Ever since beating UAB in 2008, Memphis is 0-25 when giving up 200 yards or more on the ground.

Do you see us better on this side of the ball this year? If so, what changes it? Going to be a great year, however this stat must change...

Go Tigers!
Time will tell. This is an interesting stat, for sure. Navy has run the ball down our throat, and USF did the same against us last year.

Interesting!!!
Lack of Hoss power in the defensive line
Yeah, if mammary serves, we gave up most of that yardage between the tackles.

We still have trouble dealing with the Navy cut block.

Just displaying my ignorance, is there a special technique to dealing with the Navy cut block? Is it hard to develop?
At least we get them at home this year

Yep, don't let 'em get to your legs or you're toast.

Stand them up get underneath their pad level and gain control and maintain contact until you are ready to throw them off.

They cannot cut you as long as you have them stood up and as long as you have contact another guy cannot legally cut you.

This the frustrating part, not only do our players and coaches need to better understand the Navy option attack, the officials also need to learn to recognize the illegal cut block techniques that Navy employs on virtually every play. It took the ACC about 4-5 yr to be educated on the GT attack.
We also gave up more than 40 points in six of seven games against teams who finished with a winning record. It's not coincidence we lost five of those six games.

The defense will the difference between going 8-5 and 11-2 this year.

Have you attended our last two games with Navy? I did. You are assuming it is going to be flagged. #AAC Officiating

You can only do your part and then push the officials to make the call. If they are not going to make a call no technique can stop it.

A lot of the "cut" blocking that Navy does isn't illegal ... Most of their OL are going to be shorter ( 6'2" or so ), which makes it easier for them to stay beneath pad level in comparison to most DL players ... The legal technique is really just to fire out, stand them up for a count, then go to the legs ... As long as it is one on one, I believe it is still a legal block ... Or at least it used to be ...
OK..But what about the holding? I see them holding lol...more than any other team. Am I hallucinating due to bias?

Quick feet, hot feet.

Along with some strategic holding by the defensive line.

If you can get away with holding the offensive linemen then you can keep them away from your legs. You can also keep them off you backers.
