Mac, I agree we with your assessment. Also, next year I think Godwin is going to take a huge step forward as well as Kithcart. I also think we will see Kalu and Dickens on the floor a lot together. I know Gilesfan disagrees with this but I guess time will tell. I do know the coaching staff likes Kalu's range but we have not seen that yet. Hopefully he and Dickens can make a formidable front line.

I'm not saying we won't see them together. Personally, if Reece gets his game right, I like the 3 of them working with each other. I think the coaches would like them to play more together. I just don't know that it works more than a handful of minutes per game. And Kalu has been working hard on extending his range.

There are some posters on this board who have proved they are "in the know" previously with recruiting and insider knowledge. Those posters haven't posted in this thread for a bit. That leads me to the following tin-foil hat theory: we have transfers in mind, possibly already committed under the radar, and that's why we have no incoming freshman commits or outstanding offers. The usual posters aren't saying anything to reassure the rest of us since it is probably an NCAA violation to recruit players who are already on a roster (I made this up but it feels right) and the posters can't say we are doing such a thing. I think it's something that is happening everywhere, it's how Trey knew he could leave for a better team, otherwise he would've stayed.

Anyhow, continue with your regular programming.

All I have heard is that the staff believes that next year's team could be the best we've seen in a long time. An immediate impact transfer at the PG position is the highest priority to help this team make the run they think it can make.

I don't find this hard to believe at all. There are some assumptions that go into it, but assuming Kalu takes the step that I expect him to, X is mentally ready to be the man, Justice can round into a consistent pg and run the offense well, Godwin takes another step forward, AJ Oliver is a solid contributor and good shooter, we have a really good core. If Reece sticks around and becomes a contributor and Dickens improves, we have a lot of really good pieces. Probably the best front court we have seen under JJ and the best shooting team we have seen under JJ.

I love this, let’s goooooo ODU!

Dickens need to eat some biscuits and hit the weights (not too much, but a bit).
Wade need to work on his jumpshot.
Kithcart and X on consistency.

But yes, we can be very good next year.

Add Oliver and Godwin to the mix and we should be good at the 1,2, and possibly 3 spots. We need a solid PG either freshman or transfer. Add a PF/C and a WF and we should be in great shape. I believe Wade, Kithcart, and X at times can handle the PG duties if needed.
IMO the biggest questions for next year are: Do Dickens and Zip add weight (well at least Dickens) and continue to improve? Can Kithcart be a trusted leader for the team and get more consistent with his jump shot? Who replaces BJ? If its Wade, he will need to improve his outside shooting. Will Godwin be healthy and continue to improve? The pieces are there to be good next year, but some things need to happen to make sure it all falls into place. I'd love to see another point guard, and either Reece to step up or we get another power forward. I'd also like to see us make the NCAAs two years in a row!

Jeff stated earlier this year that he wanted to get more playing time for Kalu playing at the 4 along side of either Dajour or Robinson. He has also stated that he is looking for a center recruit. Looking forward to seeing Kalu and Dickens or whoever Jeff gets at center playing together. Jeff made a similar move recently when he moved Brandan from center to the 4 and paired him with Porter up front.

Jeff always has one of his bigs outside the arc on offense setting screens and being an outlet to pass to if the guards or wings get in a jam. Carver is no threat to score from out there, but is out there pretty much every trip down the court none the less.

The way I am looking at the lineup ( without considering any grad transfers we don't know about yet) is Kithcart at the point, X at the 2, Godwin takes Stith's spot at the 3, Carver remains a starter at the 4, and Dickens at the 5. I look for Ezikpe to be first off the bench fairly quickly for Carver. Next year Carver will be a senior ( and probably the co captain along with X) so I don't see Jones taking him out of the starting rotation. But unless he improves tremendously over the summer on offense I see Kalu taking a lot of his minutes and possibly Reece slides into that spot as well. Between the 4 of Dickens, Kalu, Reece, and Carver they should fill the 4 and 5 spot for us next year.
There may be some times when Wade plays the 4 again if we go small but my guess is with the loss of Caver there are a lot of backcourt minutes that need to fill. Wade looks to be one of those guys that plays anywhere Jones feels the need to use him. It wouldn't surprise me to see Wade playing the backup role at PG given our current roster. Oliver should sub in for Godwin and X when they need a break. Fun to think about
A lot of excitement from the staff about watching Kalu develop.

A lot of excitement from Monarx about watching him develop too. I have a feeling he will be one of my all time faves by the time he's graduated.

This may come off antagonistic, but I don't mean it that way..but, does anyone think Dickens is anywhere as good as Kalu? Kalu should be playing 25-30 mins per game next year. Whereever that is and however it shakes out (bench/starter), he should be the number 1 big man option. Figure out all the other pieces after figuring out how to get Kalu close to 30 mins.

He is not close to be being better than Kalu right now, IMO, but he could be dominant if he takes the weight room seriously.

He does have a lot of upside and if he can work on offensive moving/spacing/post moves, I think he can be great. And add some weight. High upside.

Once AJ Oliver is deemed eligible, I believe he will take over for "BJ's" spot.
Speaking of recruiting and such. I know they played for S0. MS but I loved how their little guards kept attacking us off the dribble. We had our hands full. I would love to see one or two guys on our squad recruited who could do that. Kithcart comes to mind on our team. Maybe we could recruit some ourselves.
Agree. Would like to see us do that more. We've seen it a lot this year. drive and dish. Don't think Caver was necessarilly all that inclined to do it. He is much more likely to take it to the hoop. Kithcart did make one beautiful wrap around to Robinson( I think)for a score.

Both Kithcart and Green have that potential. Green is not small but he has the talent to take over a game whether it's driving the lane or pulling up for a three. I hope he takes that next step in the near future and for the rest of his career. We have only seen flashes of that. It could be there every game for him.
Hey, whatever happened to us opening up some pipeline to overseas talent? (I don't count the kid on our bench who cant get off the bench). Surfing around TV last night watching some games, every team I saw had players from Spain or wherever. Good players at that, players who could shoot etc. If schools like Northern freaking Kentucky can get them why can't we?
We're losing two 1st Team All-Conference players, that's a lot of shoes to fill. Just saying, we need a bunch of players to step up.

You must not have been watching CUSA if you saw a game on actual TV. Maybe thats how recruits hear of schools and they like playing on TV.

Monarx, last I checked Northern Kentucky wasn't in CUSA! 02-13-banana
