I think they are going to apply for a medical redshirt for Godwin.

He played in 13 games. Isn't that too much to get a medical redshirt?

I am guessing the key to Godwin may be that he did not play any games in the second semester. Possibly it's one of those situations that he gets 2 1/2 seasons of eligibility. Just a guess.

The limit is 10 games. I can think of no reason why we would not try for the medical redshirt but the most knowledgeable folks I know tell me they think there is very little chance he will get it. I, of course, hope they will be wrong.
I believe that Jones will go after -

1). Center - one that can contribute immediately.
2). Point Guard - one that can contribute immediately.
3). Combo Forward - one that can contribute immediately.

These players could be either Freshmen that he thinks will not need to redshirt, or transfers / graduate transfers.

Yes.
The cutoff is like 10% or 20% of a team's games.

Someone mentioned him not playing in the second half of the season, it doesn't matter. The only time I've ever heard of someone getting a medical after getting hurt in the second half of the season was because they were cleared to come back from an injury and happened to get hurt in their first game back (which was in the second half of the season).

Marquis will have two years of eligibility left
If we take a center, I would take a developmental guy, possibly one that is willing to redshirt. Dickens/Kalu are going to be battling for playing time for the next 2 years and a redshirt guy would be a redshirt freshman when Dickens is a senior and Kalu is a junior. Redshirt Soph when he can garner playing time behind Kalu.

Getting a backup point guard is a must. If we take a freshman, hopefully its one that can contribute 5-10 mins per game. Wade is not a guy that will run the offense.

Other than that, playing time on the wings is going to be tough so I'm not sure we look for anything like that. Unless a graduate transfer comes along, just go with a longer term development guy. Playing time on next years team is going to be tough unless you are a PG.
Unless I'm forgetting someone, we will only have Dickens at center next year. Zip is 6'7" (listed). Hope he can move to power forward and not have to spell Dickens. Seems we need an actual center (6'9" or taller) and point guard to me.

I'm sure MOST of us will all be pleasantly surprised when we see who the coaches bring in.

I think they plan to apply for a waiver with Dickens' back injury last year. They are more likely to get that one approved than Godwin's.

Foreshadowing or just 05-stirthepot?
Pardon me here, this post is not to be taken seriously. Prepare thy tin-foil hats:

There are some posters on this board who have proved they are "in the know" previously with recruiting and insider knowledge. Those posters haven't posted in this thread for a bit. That leads me to the following tin-foil hat theory: we have transfers in mind, possibly already committed under the radar, and that's why we have no incoming freshman commits or outstanding offers. The usual posters aren't saying anything to reassure the rest of us since it is probably an NCAA violation to recruit players who are already on a roster (I made this up but it feels right) and the posters can't say we are doing such a thing. I think it's something that is happening everywhere, it's how Trey knew he could leave for a better team, otherwise he would've stayed.

Anyhow, continue with your regular programming.

Is there any reason to believe Ezikpe cannot play "center?" We've matched him up with the best center we have faced (Bassey) and he did fine. If we are going to improve offensively, its going to take Ezikpe playing more minutes alongside a forward (Reece?) than playing cramming the paint with Dickens. They can play a few mins per game together. There aren't going to be many "center" minutes next year.

FWIW, I think its going to be Dickens spelling E rather than E spelling Dickens.
I don't know jack. But every year we hear, hell, no recruiting news we will suck nada yada, yawna. And we bring in guys like Caver, Dickens, zip, Kithcart etc.
Have several friends who have seen various coaches at airports, out recruiting. They will surprise us all again, even if we have no clue who they are gonna bring in at this point. I hope!!

All I have heard is that the staff believes that next year's team could be the best we've seen in a long time. An immediate impact transfer at the PG position is the highest priority to help this team make the run they think it can make.

WOW 757 ! What am I missing? Lose Stith AND Caver and we are gonna be great? They must have a 30ppg guy in their back pocket!

I don't find this hard to believe at all. There are some assumptions that go into it, but assuming Kalu takes the step that I expect him to, X is mentally ready to be the man, Justice can round into a consistent pg and run the offense well, Godwin takes another step forward, AJ Oliver is a solid contributor and good shooter, we have a really good core. If Reece sticks around and becomes a contributor and Dickens improves, we have a lot of really good pieces. Probably the best front court we have seen under JJ and the best shooting team we have seen under JJ.

High hopes for Godwin, X, Kalu, Dickens, Wade, and AJ Oliver. Kithcart is the wildcard.
Im not sure if it will end up that way because there are some assumptions at play, but I can see the reasoning. It doesn't appear we will have the 1-2 go to scorers, but will be more well rounded. There are a lot of good pieces on the team next year. It will depend on if we are able to win with more well rounded scoring.

X will have to take a step up and contribute more scoring. Kitchart is going to have to show more consistency and be the guy we can rely on.

Mac, I agree we with your assessment. Also, next year I think Godwin is going to take a huge step forward as well as Kithcart. I also think we will see Kalu and Dickens on the floor a lot together. I know Gilesfan disagrees with this but I guess time will tell. I do know the coaching staff likes Kalu's range but we have not seen that yet. Hopefully he and Dickens can make a formidable front line.
