----------------------------------------

To the loyal fans, friends and alumni of the Rice Men’s Basketball Program,
it is with great excitement that I write to you for the first time as your head coach! I am extremely happy and proud to represent this great institution as head basketball coach. e last few months have been a whirlwind for my family and the new sta but we have hit the ground running and couldn’t be happier taking on these new roles and new challenges. All of our coaches, sta, and student-athletes are working hard to build on the accomplishments of the last few years and we cannot wait for the season to start!

I’m sure you’ve seen that we added several new faces to the sta and I believe that we have assembled an outstanding team that will be great teachers and role models for our young men. Some of them know Rice very well, and a few are new to Main Street. Omar Mance, a former team MVP and two-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year, has returned to Rice, as has Van Green, a former recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal. Chris Kreider joins the sta from VMI and Mark Linebaugh comes to us from Hobart College. Our new strength coach, Sean Brown, comes to us from UT after
spending the last few years on Shaka Smart’s strength and conditioning sta. ese men join Rhett Bonner, the director of basketball operations, and Dean Miller, head of athletic training, to round out our sta. Together we share a common goal to bring in the nation’s top talent, compete for championships and develop these young meninto the next generation of Rice Owls that will go out and change the world.

We have also added several new student-athletes to our roster and we encourage you visit http://www.riceowls.com to learn about this young, talented and exciting group of men who are joining us in Houston from all over the country. I know this group will make you proud on the court and in the classroom.
It is our sincere hope to connect with each of you and we want you to be involved with the program! Other than stopping by, I’m inviting you to a meet-and-greet with the coaching sta on August 3rd at the Gorgeous Gael in Rice Village from 6pm-8pm as well as a gathering with the entire team once classes start this fall. e date for the event in the fall has yet to be determined. Please stop by, say hello, and get to know us better!

Your support means the world to our coaches, sta, and student-athletes, and we cannot thank you enough for all that you have done. We hope to see you at these upcoming events and many games this season and please help us to spread the word about the exciting things happening to the program!

Go Owls!
