Quote:A trip to Poland by U.S. President Donald Trump next week may feel like a diplomatic coup for the right-wing government, but western European nations are uneasy it will encourage Warsaw's defiance towards Brussels.

Trump visits Poland for one day - en route to a G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany - to take part in a gathering of leaders from central Europe, Baltic states and the Balkans, an event convened by Poland to bolster regional trade and infrastructure.

Brussels diplomats view the July 6 gathering, dubbed the Three Seas summit because the countries involved border the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas, as a Polish bid to carve out influence outside the European Union with which the nationalist government has repeatedly clashed.

LOL
European weakness is a very bad thing for Poland.

Why is Europe surprised when they are defiant over their weaknesses?
Trump should drop by our troops that are currently on station at the Russian border. That is the type of photo op that speaks volumes about America's commitment to defend Europe from Russian aggression.

It will speak volumes alright. France, Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the Scandinavian countries, etc should be able to easily defend any encroachment by Russia if they want to.
The problem with the whole region is that there are no naturally defensible borders. From the Rhine and the Alps in the west to the Urals and the Volga in the east, it's basically one big wide plain. That's why Germany has always been warlike. Poland has no easily defensible borders. Russia has no defensible western border unless it can get to the Alps. The lesser players all have similar issues. In that context, any reasonable defensive measure taken by any of the players looks like a threat to everybody else.
