There has been a lot of discussion on our Boards about the transfer mania that is sweeping MBB. I think most of us as fans are aware of how big an issue this has become and continues to be. I have no idea what can be done that will be both fair to the players and the schools that have developed them only to see them leave but I hope someone will figure out something. That said this is an interesting read on this problem now hitting our parent school and rival just up the road. To be candid I am surprised that this problem is now hitting a school like William & Mary. On the other hand should make it a lot easier for us to get the win this year in the Burg.

Totally out of hand. Needs to stop.
I wouldn't wish that on Middle Tennessee or Western Kentucky, much less William and Mary.
Here's the thing. The graduate transfer rule where you don't have to sit a year needs to get looked at. I don't have any interest in debating that because I don't know all of the details of how it works and what the merits are.

However, it sounds like this guy is just transferring to Georgetown and has to sit a year. No different than us getting Clifton Jones, Andre McCullum, or Trey Freeman.

The funny thing is that I bet the Georgetown fans are going absolutely crazy that one of Ewing's first recruits is a transfer from W&M that averaged less than ten points a game.
If a kid graduates, hes done his duty to school, imo.

Georgetown fans seem to be pretty happy hes coming. They are trying to fill roster

Since he is sitting a year he didn't graduate. Not sure why a school would want to tie up a scholarship for 2 years for only one year of play
The truth is, this is part of the way things are now. 150 character limits, binge watching shows, instant highlights on your phone - we are in the midst of the age of NOW NOW NOW. Players want to move to the best possible situation. You can either scoff at it and miss out or join in like the rest of D1, like we have. Jones is on record saying he doesn't like it, but he uses transfer anyway because that's what needs to be done.

It's hard to find a balance for this. Either let it keep happening and let the schools adapt to this new culture, or cut it out completely. Make it so you can only transfer if you are dismissed from a team or if the coach doesn't return next season. 1 scenario sucks for coaches, 1 scenario sucks for players. Finding middle ground is not easy.
Interesting you say JJ not in favor of transfer rules. From what I see JJ is using the transfer angle in his recruiting. We all see JJ is going after a lot of recruits we really have no chance of signing. By recruiting so many kids we are being turned down a lot. When these kids call JJ to tell him thanks but no thanks,JJ is able to say to them" if it doesn't work out for you where you are going you know you always will be welcome here". When you think about it ,it is not a bad idea.We are having a hard time getting any high school bigs to commit so why not work the transfer angle?
Yeah I just meant he has said something needs to be done about all the transfers. Here are a couple of articles where he talks about it

There is still some questions on if he's graduating this summer, but you are right about tying up scholly.

I don't like the amount of transfers. The Grad transfers, I have no issue with.
Well this should make it a little easier to get back on the right side when we play W&M in the Burg this year. Not sure I could survive losing to them 3 years in a row.

Agreed, but JJ needs to be careful what he wishes for. If it weren't for transfers he wouldn't be able to put enough players on the floor to qualify as a team.
