An undoing of the disastrous one sided Oblunder Cuban policy where the US and Cuban-Amer.'s got nothing in return. It sure made the Cuban leadership happy though when Oblunder so magnanimously handed them a lot for nothing.
Big business is going to be pissed. A brand new market filled with millions of technologically repressed people craving quality goods and services from the US just got shut down. Obama gave hope to the Cubans in America that one day they would be able to reunite with their family, Trump just took that away. Cubans who decided to wait and come across legally just had that shut down so expect more refugees on the way. Isolation doesn't work, it hasn't for the past 50 years why do you think that will change now?

Repressed would have worked fine. No need for technologically.
He promised in the campaign...so he is keeping the promise.

But a lot of Republicans who have been trying to sell stuff (like rice in my state) are probably a bit torn.

Business leaders don't care if your government is repressive as long as they can still sell you their goods. Advancement in technology and a rise in standard of living changes the expectations people have for their government and forces their government to adjust. China is the best example of this, they have come a very long way since opening their markets and embracing capitalism. Now they are economically dependent on the US, this encourages stability and cooperation.

Is China still communist? Are the people still repressed? As far as I can tell not much has changed except China isn't a 3rd world country anymore. Same thing would happen to Cuba the people would still be repressed, something the Liberalturd Left cries about here in the US. They know we're not but it's a good talking point. But, to them, screw Cubans if they're repressed. Now, we have a Liberal crying Schumer tears for BIG BUSINESS.

Castro is free to open up everything, his call. Likewise his government censors everything including internet access. Create a constitution, give citizens rights, free political prisoners.

China? Has a billion people, large scale mfg and infrastructure. Totally different than an Island like Cuba. the USA does not rely on or need PR, Jamaica, or DR in any real capacity. Maybe for Bananas and Plantains though.

In the Caribbean they import about everything, not including food although Cuba imports 80% of their food.
Local conservative Rep. just came out against it. First real break with Trump admin.

The farmers want to sell rice to Cuba.

I said China has me a long way not that they have become a fully open democratic country... They have opened their markets and encourage entrepreneurship, given people a higher degree of freedom of speech, lowered the censorship of their internet, and significantly decreased the human rights violations. It's not about being perfect its about encouraging them to continue to improve and money is the best motivator for that. Also liberals are not anti big business they are just pro ethical business practices.
My understanding is this was a promise made to Cuban-American voters in south Florida, who want to punish Cuba for decades yet.
