What a strange collection of apartment complexes. I found housing enough for 3 million students but couldn't find that many actual places of higher learning. I visited the football stadium and it was comfy. I'll definitely be heading down there for some Hurricane football games when Memphis, UCF, and the rest of the good teams come to town.

Come ahead. We have a very good home schedule this year. All 6 home games are against bowl teams and we play all the AAC west favorites - Navy, Houston and Memphis at home.

There has been some talk about TU scheduling a game in Wichita at some future point. I think thats a good idea if its against the right team. So how about this: Tulsa versus Air Force. That fits in quite nicely in a number of ways. Your history with the Air Force industry. Your history with the Tulsa program. The proximity of Wichita to both schools. (Wichits sits between both schools allowing a lot of fans to travel there.) So historically its a very good fit and should engender a lot of local interest.

Could it happen? I don't know, but its worth thinking about. I like neutral sites because its actually an away game for both schools and doesn't cut into either teams home schedule.

Will it happen? I don't know, but if there were a way of funding it to make sure noone lost money, its a winner imo.
I think the issue would be where to play it. Cessna Stadium would not work, as I imagine fans from both AF and TU both would come as well as locals.

Question: What is the main problem with Cessna for a game like that? What would make it adequate?

I think the only real concern would be if there were enough seating. I believe it holds approximately 30k. Now, it's also old and doesn't have a lot of, or any, bells and whistles. With that said, I've watched one football game there about 7 years ago between Butler CC and Blinn College and it was a lot of fun but only had about 8k there.

Structurally, there is nothing wrong. The field might need some work. I'm not sure if any of the local HS's still play at Cessna or not. I know there used to be a handful of games there most years and I believe it's hosted the Shrine Bowl in the past which is a game that showcases seniors from around the state. But I'm not sure the last time that took place in Wichita.

But as our study on the return of football showed, games could be played there as is but upgrades would need to be made for aesthetics and long-term viability.
I believe it only holds 24k since the last remodel. Lets say we get Tulsa to agree to schedule a non-con there. To make it worthwhile, it takes money from a promoter. With that few seats, getting two schools to make enough money to play there versus somewhere else is going to be tough.
Plus, didn't the Rolling Stones trash the surface when they played there?
BTW if you folks drop by for a FB game, we usually open the basketball arena up for open MBB (selected) pre-game practices if its a Saturday game and we are in MBB preseason. Its next door to the FB Stadium and free. So that is something you might keep in mind. Also, there was talk of allowing you folks a section on the "U" for a "tailgate" area if enough interest is shown and tickets bought. We also run shuttle buses from most of the main parking spots on campus to the stadium, so just park and wait for a shuttle to show up.

Our main draw this year may be the schedule with "them" western brothers the Cougars, Tigers and Midshipmen at home. We also play defending AAC champion Temple at home along with New Mexico and Louisiana (L). But again, all our home games are against bowl teams from last year. This is the first time in a lot of years we have an "all bowl" home schedule. Also, there are a lot of midtown eateries (on 11th street - old US 66) not far from campus between TU and downtown and if you come a day early, check out some of those casino's and the new attraction along the river called the "Flying T" golf driving range. Its a multi story driving range with tv monitors showing the length and track of your shot. Its fairly cheap - usually $20 per hour per booth. Its on the Arkansas river in Jenks. Google - Flying T in Tulsa.

A decade or so ago, TU wanted to become a more residential campus to attract more quality students to raise our academic standing nationally and it obviously has. To do that, we needed to take some available campus space plus some space already owned by us but not developed and convert that to quality on-campus residences. It just so happened that one of our chief benefactors, Michael Case - was also a major Tulsa residence developer and has contributed to that cause. Inside those buildings are some really, really nice apartments and a major attraction to some very smart students. So thats the story. US News rates TU one of the top schools in this part of the country and ranks higher academically than any school in any state we boarder except for Texas (SMU, Rice etc). Those apartments were a major step.
BTW if you all happen to make the trip to a game, we have some players from Kansas. Probably our best receiver next year is from Shawnee Mission West named Justin Hobbs. He is a very good one, a junior and may be playing on Sundays someday. About 6-4 and 210 with great hands. We also have a backup TE named Rob Riederer from Holton, a senior. And another player from Wichita Heights named Chris Ivey, a 6-4 280lb Soph O lineman, but it'll be hard for him to break into that lineup because its a strong point of our team.

So we know where Kansas is, thats for sure.

If you make the trip for a game or two, say hello to those kids.

If the 24,000 number is correct for football, there are ways to increase that with temporary bleacher seating and even standing room only in roped off areas. We do this (temp bleachers) for some soccer games on campus and have several bleachers ready to errect for each home soccer match. I'm pretty sure they can be ordered and put in on a temporary basis. You probably have close to enough seats right now if the 24,000# is accurate. Both AF and us normally average less than 30,000 each year. But you would have to make sure there are enough concessions, bathrooms etc though. But those are easy to get. Just get some renta-jons and the use of tents to sell a lot of hotdogs and soda. It can be done. If the stands are solid and the field is smooth, it'll be fine. It would be nice to make it an annual event if things work out.

It would be great, but would it help the cause or hurt it for FB in Wichiya? I don't know.

It probably would help. Its the start of a long road. With CFB you'd have to take your time and do it in steps, but the stadium from what I remember from decades ago and what I see now isn't that bad a start. Stadium size isn't the main problem imo. There are several stadiums of similar size already playing D-! CFB. In the MAC, CUSA and SBC.
