Do you give them money?
No. Seen far too many that turned out not to be homeless, needy, etc.

Varies.
Varies for me too. I have been told by social worker types to absolutely not give them money, for whatever that's worth. The thought being that it hinders them from getting the help they really need (alcohol help).
Sometimes pocket change if I have some, or if not, offer up a spare cigarette.
No.

No.

No.
Always unless I don't have cash.

Many of them are Vets.
I give them food and/or water.
I carry water bottles in my car for them in the summer. Occasionally one will refuse the water, which makes me awfully suspicious.
Here in north raleigh they are at nearly every exit if 540 and 440, as well as the major intersections.
We don't see as many in the summer since El Paso is extremely hot so I'm guessing they either move to cooler climates or just don't come out during the day.

They stick out like sore thumbs however down here in El Paso because we are 80% hispanic and the homeless down here are probably 90% white.
No. Never know how much truth or lie they're portraying.
Sometimes, even if I know they are going to buy something to drink. Especially older people. I think if I was there in their place I would rather be drunk. Sometimes I make a special trip to get a $5 meal deal then come back around. There's one older male that we always look for when we go to New Orleans. Two of the last three times we were there he's been in the same spot. The the time we searched till we found him. We feed him, bring him a six pack and a few dollars. Hopes he's still there when we get back in a few months. Don't think he will last much longer.

Growing up poor (outhouse, government cheese,, can chicken, poor) I could picture that life. My mother worked her ass off but still wasn't enough with out help from others..at times. So no matter how they got there, especially the elderly, If I have it...I will give
Dont ever see any.

I have, and I have not. Depends on the situation.
Wife makes up little bags of food that she will give them instead.

9 out with d 10 of them are using the $$ they are given for heroin.
Not so much anymore. I have many times in the past but have changed my tune after 25 years of living in a city. I never give on my normal commute anymore (Atlanta MARTA) after so many bad experiences. I might give elsewhere to elderly or handicapped.
Once in a while if they're clearly disabled, as in missing limb. I bought McDonald's for a guy with one arm several weeks ago. On another occasion I saw a couple of non disabled beggars the other day on my way shopping. on my way back I saw the female smoking a cigarette and on her Cel phone

I used to feel sorry for them until I became a prosecutor and then I realized how the majority of them are just awful human beings (there are some that are just sadly very mentally ill and I do feel sorry for those ones) who don't want to work, love the life of being a vagrant (f**king, drinking, fighting, and stealing), and being judgment proof (you can't punish them because going to jail is a warm shower and some food).
I keep food with me and whenever someone asks for money I offer food. Many all of the sudden become less needy when that offer is extended.

I have to be skeptical whenever someone says they are a vet as well. A few years ago had a guy who couldn't have been more than 50 tell me he was in Vietnam and he needed money to help get him to the VA. Yeah, okay whatever.
