Not that it would happen, but if the grizz demoted marc gasol to the g league, could he even average double digit rebounds? Would he get outrebounded by g league guards like he does by nba guards? Also, what are the odds he will find a g league player or two to defer to.

Also, seriously, the g league could be a threat to recruit high school players away from colleges. People have said this for years, but it could soon happen. It has gone from 8 teams to 26 teams and next year there will be 28 teams. The age to enter is 18. The main thing college has is the brand, the tradition/history and the media. If they get more g league games on tv and bring more visibility to it's top players while also developing more of a fanbase, it could get real interesting.
Why is everyone calling it the "g" league?

Gatorade is becoming the title sponsor of the D-League, and with that got the right to change the name to the G-League. "G" for Gatorade.
So it's going to be called the Gatorade League? Sounds so silly

Yes. But it will be called the G-League. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-d-...xt-season/ "NBA D-League partners with Gatorade, will be called NBA G-League next season"
On the surface, locating the team a bit further from Memphis (e.g., Jackson, Tn) would have been a good way to nurture the Griz brand outside of Memphis.

Last year, I would have thought Little Rock or Jackson, MS would have made a lot of sense.

But Grizz FO says the Hustle will actually practice and have lockers at the Forum. So Fizz and his staff can watch and participate in Hustle practices. And Hustle players can use the Grizz weight room, take advantage of the Grizz training staff, eat meals the team nutritionist prepares . . .

And with the new CBA, each NBA team has the 16th and 17th roster spots for 2-way players. So if James Ennis has the flu and is inactive for a home game, and say Wayne Selden is on the Hustle, Grizz could 'call up' Selden to replace him, and all Selden has to do is walk from the Hustle lockers to the Grizz lockers.
Interesting that they will play in the Landers center instead of that arena that they own.

Not really

They're just reaching out to folks like you in the hope of becoming a regular season fan.....while they miss on you, their target in N Miss is well placed and smart

Thanks, did not know that.

Anything that breaks the 1-and-done system we have now would be great. Let's the kid start making money now and still gives the NBA a year to evaluate. Would be even better if they expanded the NBA Draft and let NBA teams stash more contract players in the G-League. Plus let the NBA teams draft players right out of high school and put them in the G-League, and give the players a chance to decide between G-League or college for 2-3 years, like baseball does.

Another plus could be an outlet for rehab for veteran players. Just think about the Griz last year and how much we sacrificed just trying to get Chandler back to game ready. If he could have spent rehab time on a G-League team, we could have seen where he was physically without costing the Griz losses and upheaval.
The NBA commish just said last week the age limit needs to be adjusted, but it has to be negotiated with the union:

"My sense is it's not working for anyone," Silver said Thursday night before Game 1 of the NBA Finals. "It's not working for the college coaches and athletic directors I hear from. They're not happy with the current system. And I know our teams aren't happy either, in part because they don't necessarily think the players who are coming into the league are getting the kind of training that they would expect to see."

"I think we all agree that we need to make a change," Silver said. "As I've said before, our position going into bargaining was that we wanted to raise the minimum age from 19 to 20, and of course their formal position was they want to lower the age from 19 to 18."

20 would make a lot of sense, and would help the college game.

It's rare that teenagers come to the league and produce, last season there were six rookies who averaged 10 points per game or more, and none were teenagers.

I understand the NBA's position, but why not allow the teenagers to make real money while learning in the G-League, while at the same time having the NBA (hopefully) make money off of the players in the G-League rather than have the universities make millions on the backs of so-called student athletes that never had any desire to go to college? The whole point for the kid would be options. Right now a kid is punished for trying to go pro, and he's punished if he is not good at academics, and he's punished if he's not good enough to go pro after one year. Adonis Thomas could have been a millionaire without the 1-and-done rule. He may have been a solid draft pick if he doesn't get hurt in year 1. He suffered for not being great in year 2, and yet he probably felt pressured to go ahead and try to make the jump.
NBA teams don't want to draft high school players, don't want to baby sit 18 years olds. Scouts don't want to sit in a bunch of high school gyms all winter, in addition to scouting college.

High school players don't have to go to college. Terrance Ferguson got caught up in the Prime Prep shenanigans, and ended up playing in Australia this year, and will be in the draft this year. Latavious Williams played in the D-League rather than go to college. P.J. Hairston got kicked out of school and then played in the D-League before the draft.

I think the NBA eventually goes to a hybrid of the MLB draft. Especially after all NBA teams get their own G-League team. So high school player can enter draft, but if player goes to college, he is committed for at least 2 years before he can declare for draft.
