The A-10 already has a challenge.

Well crap. I don't know, Big East then? I don't care.

I'd prefer to do a big east challenge but agree a challenge of any sort would help bolster brand recognition and help teams not named uconn in scheduling.
Honestly, we don't need a challenge. We need to establish league wide minimum requirements for OOC basketball scheduling. That would do far more than any challenge we could scare up at this point.
A10 is probably more our speed right now. The Big East would crush the AAC.

and the Big East already does one with the Big 10
thanks but no thanks

our top 2 teams are down it still heavily benefits them more than us

would they? maybe in 2016. Going forward? Im not so sure.
Glad Rothstein set everyone straight early in his article:

Understand this: Neither conference will be confused with the Power 5 or the Big East in men’s basketball.

Yeah...conf strength never ever changes (i.e. obviously never ever goes up or down...always remains the same)

Why? Memphis played Providence really close last year and probably should of won that game if it wasn't for DL getting in foul trouble.

Providence came in 3rd in the BE. I think UCF, Cincinnati, SMU, Witcha State, Houston, UConn, Temple, and Tulsa could beat them.

Agree and UCF played Villanova close. Cinci or SMU would have beaten villanova last year, imo.
"Understand this: Neither conference will be confused with the Power 5 or the Big East in men’s basketball."

WTF.

A couple brand names in the Big P., the carryover dregs from the old Big East (Providence, DePaul, Seton Hall, etc.), a regionally out of place never-done-nothin', perennial one-and-done in the NCAA's with Creighton, a surging Johnny-Come-Lately in Butler...

UConn, Cincy, Memphis, SMU, Shockers...

If the AD would have asked me to pick between the Big Priest and the AAC on my preferred choice of conferences, I would have chosen the Big P.... but just barely. The tie-breaker being the fact that the P. is basketball-only and I think we would have received more revenue sharing. This conference has absolutely every chance in the world to be a better basketball conference than the P. but there needs to be more television revenue. BCS football without the big dollars rolling in is a legitimate threat to maintaining national competitiveness in basketball.

I think he's correct that the A10 will never be confused as a power conference in MBB. The AAC will. There are a lot of brand name teams in the AAC.
Can't call yourself P6 if you're going to do a challenge with the A-10, despite the fact they are a good conference.

Exactly

As someone just said to me on this topic, we have to protect perceptions

Big east or nothing. What is dead may never die
Big East vs The American:

Villanova vs Wichita State
Creighton vs Cincinnati
Xavier vs SMU
Butler vs UCF
Providence vs UCONN
Seton Hall vs Temple
Georgetown vs Houston
Marquette vs Memphis
St. Johns vs Tulsa
Depaul vs Tulane/USF/ECU

How would this be a one-sided challenge? I honestly think that we would win the challenge. I tried to match the teams up to create as equal of games as possible based on how I think the teams will do next year. I also took into account how match-ups sounded, so don't get all upset if you think your team will finish better than they are listed. Obviously we don't know who will finish where, and several of the teams (WSU and Cincy) seem pretty exchangeable at this point, but you get the idea (also I think Xavier will finish ahead of Creighton but that would match them up with Cincy and they already play so I moved it around a bit). Looking at these games I don't know how anyone could think that we would get destroyed. I honestly would be slightly surprised if we didn't AT LEAST split 5-5.

UCF was supposed to play butler at home this year but butler backed out and instead scheduled St. Louis.

I agree with you, I think AAC would win this matchup quite handily.
