I saw this done on another Rebel message board, and thought it was a good idea, here goes. My concerns and areas of confidence for 2003 Rebel football

Weaknesses
1. Run offense. HELLO! we were one of the worst running teams in division 1 football! offensive line has a lot to blame, not to mention backs running with their f-ing eyes closed. Can't wait to see Goldie with a year's experience, and Pittman bruising some folks!

2. Coaching. Harp on in here pea, but I have to agree. I think that Cuttcliffe is doing a good job building a program. An honest program, with great atheletes, however, his game day coaching abilities leave a little to be desired from what I can see, or maybe it is the OC. at any rate, we must see improvement.

3. Rushing defense. I know, I know. We did great the last three games of the season. The reason I listed this here is CONSISTANCY. We have to be consistantly good, not great on occasion. I have seen our guys play great on d (Florida, LSU, state, and Nebraska) and freaking die the next week (Alabama, Arkansas).

4. Special teams. We are losing a very CONSISTANT long snapper. I am excited about some things on special teams (the return of ridgeway and nichols), but the departure of Armstead and the longsnapper, and a coverage team that was inconsistant last year makes this one worthy to keep an eye on.

Strengths:

1. Passing attack - Eli, Collins, Flowers, Biddle, Espy! HELLO, McFly! This one goes back to playcalling tho, it has to get better.

2. Secondary - we are deep. I mean deep. Hutchins, Oliver, and travis Johnson to name a few, not to mention this Juco we signed named Aryodale (sp). I hear that this kid will freaking deliver a hit that would make you want to lay down and suck your thumb! He was offered because of that. He is a great run stopper, but I hear his coverage needs some work. We will see how he turns out, but I really like big hitters!

3. DL - I know that They are a part of the weaknesses I put up top, but, our depth here is a new thing to us. We are returning cooper, Mitchell (both Mitchells) and several more that I can't think of. Not to mention getting Boykin back, bringing in Wicker, and a freshman that is supposed to get some PT. We will finally be able to rotate in and out two complete - great DL's that ARE NOT UNDERSIZED. I believe we average over 270 on our front! FINALLY!

4. OL depth. Notice I did not just say OL. Their passblocking is great, but their run blocking flat out pisses me off. Now, to the matter at hand. We have several guys on the OL that were talented enough to play as Freshman, and they have a year's exp under their belts (sorry, I don't have many names, and dont feel like looking them up 03-lol but, you can be sure to add in Buckles to that list. The depth is finally up there, and did I mention we are finally over the 300 lb mark for a OL average 03-wink Now that get's me excited. maybe no more trying to punch the ball in 4 straight times against fl and not being able to do so. That goes as much on the OL and backs as it does the coach!

now, something I did not list, but am going to keep my eye on is linebackers. We lost strong, who was an emotional leader on the field, but LP should be able to pick up his slack if he can stay healthy. With wade in there two for run support, and not to mention incoming fresh, willis and mcbeath, we should have a lot of fun watching this group. Not to mention the guy who will be wearing #38 this year, and I hear he's gonna be a stud 03-wink

What do you guys think?
also got a link to some pics of some guys off the football team from the other day. I hope he don't mind me sharing.

Tell you what I think: I'm ready for some freaking Rebel football! I like the sound of the line size on both sides, the d-backfield, and that slobberknocker Aryodale....

Bring it on!!! 04-cheers
OOHRAH!
just to give you guys something to get excited about, McClendon is up to 200 lbs, and they said that he is going to be more of a bruiser this year. He has busted his butt in the summer, and gained a lot of strength. I hear he is determined to be the #1 man.
Keep bringing the good news, USMC!

Especially at RB...

04-cheers
Right on. That is good news, especially at the RB spot, seeing as how we took a big hit with Pittman going down. Sounds like McClendon is determined for us not to lose too much at RB until Jamal can get back. And from the sound of it, McClendon is trying to keep Jamal on the sidelines even when he is ready to return. 03-lol I like that, they are fighting for their jobs, this is a good sign. And with Mc's added weight, tacked on to his already quick speed, he should provide some much needed relief for Eli.

Good stuff, USMC!
I just listened to Cuttcliff on sec media days, and from what cutcliff says, Pittman will be going full speed in practice monday! He said they weren't gonna hit him just yet, but that he was 100 percent full speed as far as running and cutting ability! man, that guy musta busted his hump to get better! you gotta admire him! maybe he'll be with us in games by mid season.

Yes he did. Did you read that part about him in the PM I sent you? I know it was long, but accurate stuff.
Also, we could probably live without Jamal for the first four games, but hopefully he can come back for the Florida game.

Or on second thought, maybe the Ark St game would be a better return game, just to help get his timing back and get used to getting hit again in a game.
I second that, plus it'd give the guy some confidence. I mean, he has never played in a game, not to mention making his return within the confines of friendly VHS.
I agree, and besides, Florida doesn't even know what kind of reptile is their mascot!! 03-lol 03-lol
Not trying to sound pessimistic, but if we aren't able to do it this year, it will be a long time before we are able to amass a team that has to face such a great schedule and really accomplish something. Get it now, or we might not for quite awhile.
I agree with most of what has been said, except I think USMC meant to say Cutcliffe's "game day coaching" leaves a "LOT" to be desired. Great man...honest and obviously a good recruiter but not preparing - motivating our guys enough!
exactly still
I can't believe my ears!

Really USMC, do you think our run blocking is weak? Four times inside the one yard line and we call off-tackle four consecutive times and get nothing constitutes a weak-arse offensive line.

Basically, though, everything is weak on the Ole Miss football team.

"but mostly i'm weak...a little weak pansy who runs his mouth on a chat board and who would never even dare speak to any of you in real life"

Get those reservations ready for Shreveport, y'all!
I think your name should be changed to son of a *****......Swag, would this be a problem to do?
We won't necessarily duplicate our play or plays from last year - good or bad!
Rebstill, apparently you have a bad memory. I remember Klutz calling the same darn plays every year he's been here. When we had Deuce he liked for Romaro to dump the ball to him in the flat. That worked against Texas Tech in the Indy Bowl, but SEC foes got wise to that really quick. Now, he doesn't even want to throw the ball. He wants to hand it off for our 1/16th of a yard. And, he likes to call off-tackle when it's like 3rd and 16 and only 2 minutes left in the half, as if our defense can hold another team.

Watch, play calling won't be any different this season. I can tell by the formation the O is lined up in what the Rebs plan on running. If I know the play before it's run, then certainly the defenses we play against will know the plays the O plans to run.

Wake up, Still. Klutz sucks and hopefully this year is his last
