The study, published in the Evolution and Human Behavior journal, ​found that weaker men were more likely to favor socialist policies than stronger men.

“This is about our Stone Age brains, in a modern society,” said Dr. Price. “Our minds evolved in environments where strength was a big determinant of success. If you find yourself in a body not threatened by other males, if you feel you can win competitions for status, then maybe you start thinking inequality is pretty good.”

Taking his assessment one step further, Price wanted to factor in gym time to see if he could determine the relationship flow between strength and socialistic leanings. Are men who are naturally strong more inclined to hold capitalistic views, or are men with capitalistic views driven to go to the gym?

“When Dr Price factored in time spent in the gym some, but not all, of the link disappeared,” notes The Times, suggesting there may be something to men with capitalistic views hitting the gym.

“Of course this isn’t rational in modern environments, where your ability to win might have more to do with where you went to university. Lot of guys who are phenomenally successful in modern societies would probably be nowhere near as successful in hunter gatherer societies,” added Price.

Of course they are. Weak men cannot compete and most were picked on as a kid, have low self-esteem, feel like victims, and want to change the playing field because they don't know what it feels like to win...

Some people have brains and some people have brawn.

It's a bull**** conclusion... The "stone age brain" thing was a metaphor which the progs will take literally. No cupcakes, he was not saying you're literally smarter. Believe it or not, one can be both physically fit and intelligent.

And education =/= intelligence. People are driven differently. The most intelligent person I know actually owns an auto mechanic shop. I also know doctors and lawyers that are of average intelliegence. Any Joe of average intelligence can put in all their time and energy to memorize academics and do well in school if they are driven to do so. Many end up academically successful, but cannot relate to other people and have no emotional intelligence. The academic types that actually are extremely intelligent wind up in research and development where they can work independently. Those that are not intelligent wind up working for someone else under close supervision or wind up in their mom's basement until they are 40. Those driven to other activities are no less intelligent.

and some have both

they aren't mutually exclusive. It is perhaps true that those who lack severely in one may accentuate 'whatever' they have in the other... leading to some meat-heads who become body builders and some geeks who can't lift their laptops...

The biggest difference between a body builder and lots of people I know is their focus on diet and supplements that accentuate their physique... and not on their actual strength. Same with some physicists. It's their choice of conversation topics that makes them appear 'smarter' than some others.

If the 171 men in the study were re-evaluated on the basis of intelligence, rather than physical strength (and bicep circumference), and it was found that there was no correlation between intelligence and favoring socialism -- say that the most intelligent were evenly split between favoring capitalism and favoring socialism -- what would be your opinion, then?
