Tim Selgo has written a book on his 20 years at Grand Valley and time at UT.
Looks like a potential gift for throw back Rocket fans from glory days and yesteryear.

Does everyone have to write a book now? Not sure what Selgo learned at DII would apply much for DI athletics where they are recruiting totally different kids, paying coaches "small" salaries and bringing in very little income. The disclaimer at the bottom says the reviewer was paid to review the book.
Agree that the paid reviewer interesting...would have been interesting to see what might have happened if he had ever been AD here...his school has won a ton of national titles I think in many different sports including FB if I remember...apples to coconuts for sure...got a feeling we'd be in a different place currently...Then again we are what we are being in the MAC.

Don't think Tim wasn't asked to consider the AD's position. (To my knowledge, he was never offered). Unfortunately, the negativity that surrounds the university that is portrayed by a particular media source was one of the factors. Along with, his salary at UT would have been very comparable with what he was already making at Grand Valley State, the athletic programs at GVSU continued to grow the entire time he was there, top-notch facilities, and many national championships.
Another side note, while he was there, their average home football attendance each year outnumbered over half the MAC schools. Last year alone, during their 6 regular season home games, they averaged over 14,000 per.
Once he was at GVSU for a while he was not coming back to UT. He had the best of a lot of things; great community support, significant corporate support, very strong campus leadership commitment, growing school attendance in the second largest city in the state (pretty sure)...he was not coming back and I think he made it clear to his supporters back here that he was very content at GVSU. Good one certainly got away!
Good for him. I hope he sells a million of 'em.

It looks like this was a self-published book and honestly, if you like writing, there aren't many barriers to publishing if you go this route. Good for him if he enjoys writing in the extended free time that he has now. I hope retirement is treating him well.

I agree. Heck, a one paragraph post of reasonably coherent thought is tough enough for me. More power to those that give a book a try.
