@GeoffGrammer @JPGroves @mrudi19 Rumor former Aggie recruit Figueroa visiting Unm. U guys got any scoop that Judas is still cherry picking?

As a Runner supporter, yah LJ Figueroa NOT attending NMSU is a good news for us, on the court. But, in reality, I feel badly for the Ags with this whole spectacle. IF he DOES go to UNM.....super lame!!

(As noted later in the tweet sequence if you read it, his rumored academic issue may be a factor. If that is true, maybe better for the Ags if he's not there as that could be even worse had he played then became ineligible. )

Correct me if I'm wrong but since he never stepped on the court for NMSU I don't think they have he power to block his transfer anywhere.

Not sure how that works. IIRC, he WAS attending classes at one point. Also, perhaps NLI (or such) signing may factor in, but I really am counting on those here more knowledgeable on the subject.

The tweet sequence mentions that its possible (UNM or rather, getting around a block), IF he pays his way for a time. Id think that VERY expensive, if he doesnt have NM residency status for a year.
Here is how I look at it. LJ was taking classes at NMSU this spring semester. He had signed an NLI back in November. If he was already using any of the scholarship money that NMSU provides, than we have the right to block him. Its not about whether a player has set foot on a court for your team, but whether the scholarship is being used. Bollo never played a minute, but he was on scholarship for 2 years. Had his classes payed for and his medical bills taken care off. NMSU has the right to block him.

A school pays for a players education, they damn well have a right to say where they can't transfer to.

Would it be right for a school to spend money on a player, only to have them transfer to a rival or fellow conference member?
I agree, I do think they should be able to block this transfer but it doesn't seem like that is the case for whatever reason. I want to add though they should be able to follow the coach that recruited them in the case of a coaching change, doesn't seem fair to the kids. The coach gets to leave without penalty but the kid can't and they are now stuck under a coach who didn't recruit them.

He will sit this year out. Seattle have put together 4 transfers for next year all redshirting this year with Jordan Hill from Wisconsin, Richaud Gittens from Weber State, Dashawn McDowell from SMU and now Owies. 2 SG's and 2 PG's. Going to probably need a bit more length. They are now full for their scholarships. Pretty impressive group of transfers though. Seattle is going to be pretty young next year as well. Unless I am reading something wrong there will be no Seniors on next years team. That will be an interesting Senior Day haha. Well done to Seattle and Coach Hayford!

Actually only McDowell and Owies are redshirting. Gittens and Hill are grad transfers.

Dollar definetly left a very young team for Hayford with promising players like Freshman of the Year Matej Kavas and Morgan Means. How many will remain after Hayfords first year, we will see though.
Slightly off topic, but still kinda mad Oscar got snubbed for Kavas.

Yeah, I agree Oscar should have gotten it honestly. I think its because Kavas went off during conference play when it matters. He wasnt that good during the non conference part of the schedule

I think having DC come back for us kinda hurt him down the stretch cause he kinda ate into his minutes, but I won't dewel on this too much, so back on topic we go.
Figueroa signed a NLI for the 2017-18 season. He enrolled at NMSU this January but I think he was paying his own way until his scholarship kicked in in the fall. So, as of now, NMSU doesn't have a binding contract with Figueroa until the fall. However, it appears Jans is willing to release him from his NLI without putting condition on his release.
Weir didn't want Bollo. Was going to have him declared medically ineligible. Also said if was not developing at all. Heard this straight from Weirs mouth. Not a big loss. Figueroa on the other hand is a blow. I think Jan's was working hard to get him to stay. Weir worked behind the scenes on this one. Looks like he's heading to UNM.

So, what's your gut feeling, dancing? It seems like you might know some people who might know some things. Is Bollo the last to go, so the focus can shift from what's been lost to what's next for Aggie basketball? It's gotta be hard to stay forward-looking with guys going out one by one.

Like, if you're going, go ahead and get gone then. Let NMSU fans and admin fully turn the page from the betrayal & fallout. If this were a bandaid, I would be begging to just rip it off already! Hahaha.

NMSU offered but not pursued hard by Weir coaching staff. Lot's of offers are made on kids, some hotly recruited, others an after thought. This kid was not sought after hard by NMSU. Congrats though on CSUB getting him. He looks good. Now go to sleep Clarity and stop sticking pins in your Ray Finkle Aggie doll.

At this point my GCU friend the best I can say is Harris, Chuha, and Ndir are staying. Those 3 are huge. McCants and Garza are also for sure. Other than that the remaining are up in the air. I can tell you the next Jan's recruit is going to surprise everyone. 02-13-banana

I hated to see you guys lose Figueroa. I thought the NMSU basketball program was finally ready to make some noise. To go beyond just winning 20 games and making the tournament. Pascal Siakam drafted in the first round. Figueroa signing with the Aggies. The win at Arizona State, first win for NMSU over a power conference school since 2004. The momentum was there under Weir and his leaving put a halt to it. Hopefully Jan's can re-start it.

Well Dancing, when is this surprise Aggie recruit going to appear? With the NLI period over, no new player is bound to a school until they sign a financial aid agreement first. So, based on your rumor mill, can Aggie fans expect to hear about a freshman, juco, or grad transfer?
All I was told is a "surprise recruit". The source wouldn't elaborate. Sorry. I wish I knew more.

Well, summer school starts this week. Hopefully, whomever recruit your source is talking about enrolls at NMSU now and something is announced. Aggie fans need a bit of good news after a long frustrating spring.

I've looked through the recruiting websites and there are still "some" 3-star HS recruits available; a handful of top JC players; and maybe a dozen or so grad transfer who could make a difference. Unless a player like Ndir (originally signed with Texas A&M) falls into NMSU hands there not much out there to completely remove the sting of losing Figueroa.

Now look ... I know Crimson has already handled this with you. And most of this garbage is hidden so the public can't see it anymore. But I have a real problem with people being out and out a**holes to mods, particularly publicly.

Have 4 weeks off from the site. Straight from the top. You wanna cry about that you can PM me. But I'm already grumpy with your behavior, so I wouldn't advise it.
