Pastner was desperate for some good recruits and with the Lawson's he saw some easy top recruits. Therefore he gave the kitchen sink to Keelon. Then Tubbs comes in and has to deal with that messy situation for his entire first season. He came to the realization that the only way was to cut them all loose. The Lawson's were a cancer that had spread into the entire team. Anyone who's ever been a part of team sports understands that one star player being catered to but who also has a "me first" or "Ima get mine" attitude willl ultimately kill a team culture to the point of being unrepairable. This is why a 4 or 5 year window often closes pretty fast on coaches if they can't fix the problems. Tubbs made it so that they had no choice but to walk after year one because he understands this. Now, with year one recruiting wasted, and year 2 recruiting being nothing but patch work, can Tubbs use year 3 to ensure a successful recruiting trail? Troubling times for tiger fans.

If Tubbs can't do this, the next coach will take a minimum of 5 years to turn it around. So we are staring at a 2010-2022+ Window of being irrelevant. And I don't want to even imagine what happens if the next coach is a lemon.

Thank you Josh. We'll feel the effect of you being here for a while. Josh's inexperience was a major cancer cell within the tiger program. He was removed but the cancer still remains. His players were removed. Tubbs is in the process of trying to remove it all,but it may be too late. I hope I'm wrong.
We made it two days without someone calling the Lawson's cancers. Congrats.
Probably not two days busting Pastner's chops. Get over it all Tiger fans it's over!!!

Great post but if anyone can fix the metastatic, cancerous effects of the Pastner regime...it's the Tubby. You can take that to the bank!

It is what it is. The decline of Tiger basketball definitely started under his watch. So much for "no slippage".

Wow, that is some contagious cancer. It seems that it spread to Markel, Randall and even to Clergeot who Pastner probably has never met in his life. Pastner's cancer apparently also spread to every single recruit ranked #105 or higher.

Do you think that any recruit gives a **** at all about who the previous coach was? Do you think there is a single recruit who sees FEF, sees the facilities, sees what the new facilities are going to look like, see what our history is and say...

Good God and Sweet Baby Jesus, I will not go to Memphis because maybe I will get the cancer from Josh Pastner. Are the Lawsons the only people in the NCAA that can give a program the cancer? How come others programs don't have the cancer like we do?

Look buddy, the only cancer recruits will worry about at Memphis is the Tubby can't recruit, Tubby has only won 1 NCAA game in the last 9 years cancer. That is the only thing on any of their minds. None of them give a crap about Josh Pastner or anything in their lives for that matter that happened more than 15 minutes ago.

No, it is not over. Look all around the program. The mess is still there.

A basketball program can turn around with 1 recruiting class.

That can't be right. the OP said it would take 4-5 years and plus we have the cancer.

I am having a good laugh at this post, but I will play along. What is your expectation for Tubby? For now I won't even ask about this supposed mess that is still there and where it is "all around the program." I will avoid being overly ambitious and asking you for any details of any kind.

Obsessive hatred is what's directed at our new coach who hasn't a chance to turn this program around but he will. Can't wait to see the miserables' faces when he does. Go Tigers!! 02-13-banana

Disagree with both posts. However you want to spin it, the Lawson's were a problem and a problem that spread to almost all the players. And, they weren't talented enough to be worth it (say how great Dedric was again and I'll parade tons of great stats from "great" players on crappy teams). They are gone and it is over.

Tubby, on the other hand, did a poor job handling the situation from day 1, has been a crappy recruiter to date and has given me no reason to believe that the Tigers will be on top again until our next coach comes through the door.
