this should be great to boost RPI next season
Awesome!!
Well done! Rice will be opening the season at UCF's inaugural tourney in Orlando against UCF, Virginia and Samson. Then we have back to back series against Stanford and Texas.
I hope this means more big time series and less SWAC schools
We host miss
State
For a weekend series next year. Return with 3 at state to open 2019
Very nice. I'm jealous.

The State series is certainly a positive, but I'm not sure that happens if they weren't renovating their stadium. Don't think they're playing a home game until mid-March. I'll take it though.

I've said this on our board, but ideally our OOC looks like this:

-Mid 100s snowbird (Northeastern is fine, or Canisius, St. Bonnie, etc).
-1 and done with a top 25 program (most elite programs don't want to travel to Hattiesburg, so do a 1 and done unless we can get a H/H like we do with State).
-H/H with a quality non-power foe (ULL, DBU, MoState, UNCW, etc)
-Guarantee series in Hattiesburg vs a solid top 50-75 southern mid-major (McNeese, FGCU, Mercer, Jacksonville).

Keep the current midweek rotation going.
Tech needs to get series w/ Southeastern & Tulane

Cant believe your not playing tulane. They played southeastern like 5 times a few seasons back.

I don't know what the deal is, we have a healthy schedule with ULL and ULM. LSU plays us occasionally but I imagine back then we were hurting more than helping their RPI.

This.
I just hope that we have a competitive team next season. This has gotta be a good recruiting tool for helping convince a few JUCO's to come to Ruston next year.

Do y'all lose a lot of seniors?

We are losing our first, second, and third basemen, and possibly our catcher if he declares for the draft on the infield. And I believe we're losing all 3 of our starting outfielders too. Not sure 100% what pitchers but I know Nate Harris is a senior.
LaTech loses their entire weekend rotation and a lot of those JUCO guys in their lineup - Lunceford, Gladu, Boggs, Ullrich, and the Washam bros.
Without looking at what other teams are bringing back, I'd guess USM would be the favorite next year. Depends on what happens in the draft though. Only have 3 seniors (and just 1 that's a real contributor... Burdeaux). Everyone else should return. Burdeaux is a huge loss IMO, but Erick Hoard (transfer from Jones JC) will come in and play 1B and hit something like .315 with 7-8 HRs (maybe more). Luke Reynolds (Mississippi State transfer) will be eligible next year and be a factor as well. He hit .300+ in 2015 at MSU.

Pitching-wise everyone should return + Walker Powell back from TJ surgery and a couple other transfers coming in that are decent.
Rice returns all but two everyday position players assuming nobody gets drafted and leaves early (Tristan Gray, our second basemen, is the only one who might?)...

We don't lose any pitching unless Otto leaves early for the draft. If you had asked me a year ago, I would've said he is a top 50 pick and guaranteed to be gone after three years. That said, he hasn't been great this year. Can't teach 98 MPH though so I bet he gets drafted in the first ten rounds.

We are supposed to have a good recruiting class, but that's always a crapshoot... If we finish the year strong, i'll have a bunch of hope going into next year as we were young this year, especially on the mound. But if our recent play reverts to how we played for most of March, all bets are off.
Friday, March 2 (7PM): Tech vs. A&M
Saturday, March 3 (2PM): Tech vs. California
Sunday, March 4 (3PM): Tech vs. Baylor

Is baseball like football where a player loses a year of eligibility?
Man, I wish we had gotten into the regionals this year when @ Lafayette didn't. How did we finish, like 21-18 after a 17-2 start? We still had a good chance going into the last RS series and the conference tourney.

I think USM and Rice will represent CUSA well. Is there another team in the regionals?

ODU was among the "first four out".

ODU and LATech were both in pretty good shape for at-large but didn't finish strong.
