With today's news of Bolin transferring to Rutgers, the QB picture, or at least who will be involved, now seems pretty clear. We're going to have to ride with who is already here.

Ryan Graham
Before a disaster of a 2016 season, Graham stepped into a near impossible and played admirably. His stats were unremarkable, but he lead a 4th quarter rally to defeat previous undefeated Toledo in the Glass Bowl, handled Buffalo, and beat the fighting Flecks in Huskie Stadium.

However, he got injured against Ohio, had -11 total yards in the bowl game, and was a tire fire in 2016.

For his career, Graham has completed 54% of his passes for just under 1400 yards (6 YPA...yikes) with 14 TD and 9 INT, and has averaged under 3 YPC.

Daniel Santacaterina
Took over for an injured Graham and led a comeback victory at bowl bound Eastern Michigan. Followed it up with a victory the following week against Kent State.

The stats? Not very good. Completed 48% of his passes for 361 yards with 1 INT and 2 INT. Also had 107 rushing yards on 4.1 YPR.

Marcus Childers
By all accounts, had the best spring ball of any quarterback. Went from not in the discussion to start to possibly the #1 at the end of spring ball.

Has excellent measurables. Big (roster has him listed as 6-0, 235), fast (HUDL has his 40 at 4.6). Really impressive highlight film. Looks like he can run well and throw a good deep ball.

Rodney Hall
The pride and joy of the 2017 recruiting class. Super athlete who enrolled early and took part in spring ball. Speed is not in question. Throwing ability, very much in question. Does not appear to be in the mix after spring ball, but Carey has said he still hasn't made a decision if he would redshirt or not.

Childers. Santa and Graham aren't the answer and Hall needs to redshirt. Not ready to be thrown into the fire yet but has a bright future

Childers, then Santa, after that Anthony Thompson, next after that would be burning the shirt on Hall if the season is worth salvaging.

If the season is shot at that point play Rotherham.
I went Santa. Not because he is the best, but maybe the easiest choice. Starting Graham sends the wrong message if the players don't believe in him. Childers had 2 good weeks, and though I'd love him to be the messiah, some of that love is from just hope alone. Santa has the two wins. Can make a few plays. And I'm going to make a leap that if he's like his brother, he has team mates behind him.

Then again, I predicted McIntosh in 2014.
Didn't someone once mention Frazier was high on Childers? If true, I expect he is a good judgement of skill

+1,000,000

Redshirt him and let the Hall Era begin in 2018.
I voted Graham. Carey will go with the safe pick.

The positive if it's Graham is we can finally be done with Carey for good after this season.
I still want to see Santa. I think he has a lot of upside, hopefully he works his ass off now till the season starts.
From the results, I think that is basically a lot of "hope" it is Childers.

I hope others on the staff have input on this and Carey isn't going on his gut alone. Or it may be Santa followed by Graham.

I can see it starting Graham then having someone replace him if ineffective. Similar to the Northwestern game a few years back when it went McIntosh to Hare etc.
Question isn't who you would like to see as the starting quarterback, it's who WILL be the starting quarterback.

Y'all are out of your minds if you think Coach Carey isn't going to open the season with Graham under center.
Santa. Graham will get hurt and no way Childers will be given the job.

I really thought Carey blew it in not given McIntosh his job back when he was healthy.
Childers, but I'll take Santa as an honorable mention.
I really think the QB that gives us the best chance to win will start. Whether you like Carey or not, he's doing things different this year to get the football team back on track. Bringing back former players, offering more recruits, and bringing in additional Juco players gives me the impression that he needs to have a good season. If Childers shows he can move the chains better than everyone else then I believe he will start.

Picked Childers having only seen his HS video. Not necessarily starting at the beginning of the year, but by a couple games into the MAC.
What evidence do we have that Childers had the best spring? He may have had the practice/scrimmage on Saturday, but I would think the QB which took the reps with the 1's was the QB who had the best camp. Santa took the reps with the 1's. I think Graham deserves the starting nod, based on experience alone. I like what I have seen from Santa, and I too am hopeful for Childers, but if we had to start the season today, Graham would make the most sense. Redo the poll prior to the start of the season and I will likely change my answer.

He went from not involved in the QB derby to forcing his way into it. Not hard to put 2 and 2 together thee.
One positive for Santa, based on my untrained eye, is that when his opportunity came he seemed to gain confidence and effectiveness the longer he was on the field, I cannot say the same for Graham.

I do not know who has the greater upside but we have seen a lot of Graham and I have not liked what I have seen. Maybe Jordan Lynch can help Cary make a better decision as he certainly knows the position. Could be we just don't have much to choose from.
